What You'll Do:

Carry and place track materials using standard Railroad maintenance track tools.
Install railroad tracks and embankments including special track work, road crossing signage, and rail lubricator.
Preform Railroad track maintenance and construction activities to include Changing rail, ties, building track, adjusting switches, etc.
Operate picks, shovels, and spike mauls for long periods of time. 
Operate specialized hydraulic and air railroad power tools.
Attend after hour/ weekend callouts to repair damage done to tracks in the event of a derailment.
Assist in re-railing train cars.
Follow company and federal rules, policies, and procedures &ndash; wear required safety equipment, respond to and act on safety concerns.

What We Need from You:

Must be 18 years of age or older
Must pass all required assessments/trainings and be willing to submit to a background check, pre-employment drug screen, and random drug tests
High School diploma (or equivalent) and previous experience in the railroad or other heavy construction or maintenance industry is preferred, but not required
Willing and able to travel to various job sites, including those that require overnight stay and short notice mobilization, and work in all weather conditions (extreme hot, cold, rain, snow, sleet, etc.)
Understand and follow verbal/visual communications; respond to audible and visual signals and warnings; recognize, avoid, and report potential hazards

American Track is seeking an experienced Track Specialist with expert-level knowledge of FRA Track Safety Standards. The Track Specialist is a senior level inspector that monitors railroad track functionality and structure to assure compliance with federal safety regulations. The successful candidate must demonstrate knowledge and understand the requirements of FRA Part 213, detect deviations, and prescribe proper remedial action. The Track Specialist must be detail-oriented, a skilled problem-solver, and able to learn and apply federal and railroad rules, regulations, and policies. 

Major Responsibilities

Plan and implement a program of periodic inspections to provide optimum coverage of the railroad track network in the assigned territory and ensure compliance with FRA Class 1 requirements
Perform on-ground inspections where defects are indicated to determine the seriousness of the problems and best means of correction.
Inspect railroad track structure for compliance with railroad policy and federal/state regulations
Detect deviations from federal/state regulations. Communicate with local Area manager and implement remedial action on defects, pending repair
Inspect completed work to verify conformance to government regulations
Prepare inspection reports for management and government compliance
Perform special inspections of the track structure in times of severe weather or other events that may damage the railroad
Perform other tasks necessary to the efficient operation of the railroad
Identify opportunities for market expansion into new related services or geographies in support of the overall regional and company growth plans.
Support key customer relationships and participate in closing strategic opportunities.

The Railroad Trackman works as a crew member to maintain, repair, and replace rails, ties, switches, and ballast while using hand tools and operating heavy equipment. The position starts as a Trackman, with an opportunity to qualify as a Machine Operator once the necessary skills have been mastered. The Trackman usually reports to work daily at 6 a.m. and must be available to work full-time (40 hrs/week) subject to overtime, on-call (24/7), alternating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays. 

THERE WILL BE SOME TRAVEL!  If we travel it will usually be 4/10s with three days off)

What You'll Do:

Carry and place track materials using tools such as tie tongs, rail tongs rail forks, lining bars, shovels, and jacks.
Install railroad tracks and embankments including special track work, road crossing signage, and rail lubricator.
Repair, install, and replace signs on railroad crossings.
Align and slide track tie plates and cut rails to specified lengths.
Perform handle drilling activities for insertion of bolts or joints.
Align and gauge deviations in track surfaces in order to ensure train safety.
Remove brush and other vegetation from between rails.
Perform lubrication activities on joints, angle bars, and switches.
Complete authorized repairs and document outcomes of all repair activities
Lay and fix foundations for tracks, replace worn out or rough rail ends, rebuild roadbeds, and lay new rail sections.
Operate picks, shovels, bulldozers, and spike mauls for long periods of time (sometimes all day), as well as specialized hydraulic railroad power tools.
Attend callouts to repair damage done to tracks in the event of a derailment.
Right derailed rolling stock and assist in lubricating wheel bearings.
Follow company and federal rules, policies, and procedures  wear required safety equipment, respond to and act on safety concerns.

Responsible for loading & unloading heavy equipment or materials for transportation, including proper securement and binding for proper transport to job sites.
Drive truck to and from designated destinations for up to 11 hours with and maximum of 14 hours total as DOT rules allow.
Safely drive a Class-A truck hauling equipment on a flatbed/low-boy trailer in a variety of conditions, including urban, suburban, and rural environments
Perform daily pre & post- trip inspections/safety checks with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT guidelines and company policies.
Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required. 
Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance to ensure vehicle is in safe operation condition. 
Follow all DOT regulations and company safety driving guidelines and policies. 
Maintain records required for compliance with state and federal regulations including drivers record of duty status, mileage records and other records required by law.
Obeying and following applicable traffic laws
Must keep truck in a clean and orderly condition. 
Perform all other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


At least 3 years experience driving, and 2 years hauling heavy equipment.

Employees will complete repairs and maintain all aspects of rail including frogs, rail-ends, turn-outs, switch points, and use thermite welding processes to connect rails. This job is often more GRINDING (Surface Grinder) than welding, so please keep that in mind. THIS IS NOT A TRAVELING WELDER POSITION.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
Inspect all equipment daily to check for leaky cylinders, hoses, or connections.
Perform grinding tasks using power and hand tools.
Assist crews on job sites in other rail related repairs such as changing out rails, changing crossties, etc. including labor or machine operating.
Replace rail anchors, drive spikes and tamp ballast as needed.
Monitor and maintain flow of gases, light torch and adjust gas mixture and pressure to obtain desired flame when making field welds. Replace cylinders on work vehicle as needed.
Repair or replace broken or cracked rail and build-up rail, trim weld, grind the surface of rail, and grind gauge sides.
Complete thermite welds from start to finish.
Inspect weld after grinding to check for hairline cracks or any visible defects.
Operate torches, welding equipment and heavy equipment.
Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Pay Rate: Hourly Pay Rate - $22.00 - $25.00 depending on past track-welding experience.

Preferred Qualifications


Experience in thermite welding and other rail related maintenance processes
Experience in new track construction processes
One or more years of outside work exp (e.g. construction, heavy equipment op, etc.)
Welding certification

Physical Requirements


Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection.
Able to lift heavy objects.
Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/crawl/balance/climb.
Work in extreme heat
Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis.

We recognize that earthwork is a vital part of almost all railroad construction projects, and our Backhoe Operators are at the heart of our operations. The Backhoe Operator is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that works on construction and maintenance projects. The individual who fills this position will also be trained on and will operate specialty railroad machinery that includes a Tamper machine and Ballast Regulator. The applicant is being hired with the intent of working as a Backhoe Operator as well as an operator of our on-track machines. Some travel/weekend work should be expected.

Our CDL A Drivers' main responsibilities include transporting and loading/unloading materials, tools, and equipment to various job sites throughout the Northeast Region  New Jersey, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, New York, Maryland, Ohio, etc.  You will be required to support the company goals by following all Federal, State and Local DOT and FRA (Federal Railroad) regulations. 

What You'll Do:

Inspect tractors and trailers for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance. Any issues found will need to be brought to the attention of our in-house mechanic
Safely drive a Class-A truck hauling equipment on a Step-deck/Low-boy/Landoll trailer in a variety of conditions, including urban, suburban and rural environments
Occasionally drive manual dump trucks and prentice trucks to and from jobsites
Load, deliver, and recover a variety of equipment (Backhoes, Excavator, Skid steers, Loaders, On-track Equipment, etc.) and materials (Pallets, Crates, RR Ties, Rail, etc.) to and from the customer worksite
Occasionally haul oversized loads to and from jobsites (Overweight 100,000, Over-width 11) - preferred
Drive safely in tight settings such as construction zones
Follow truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures
Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
Report defects, accidents or violations
Willingness to always wear your seatbelt and the proper/required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as hard hat, hi-visibility class II DOT rated shirt or vest, 6 lace-up steel toed / metatarsal protected boots, eye/ear/face protection on an as needed basis

What You'll Do:

This position involves 75% travel.  Generally, three out of four weeks out of town (4 X10) and home on Friday.  Travel hours, hotel, & per diem pay are company paid.

Install railroad tracks and embankments including special track work, road crossing signage, and rail lubricator

We recognize that earthwork is a vital part of almost all railroad construction projects, and our Backhoe Operators are at the heart of our operations. This role must be available to work full-time (40 hrs/week) subject to overtime, on call (24/7), alternating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Pay is negotiable. 

What You'll Do:

Lead safety and quality control policies among employees and subcontractors to ensure the project runs smoothly and on schedule
Plan construction processes and set performance goals and deadlines
Maintain a daily diary of all activities and site conditions and manage the punch list and closeout process for the job
Supervise staff and provide constructive feedback
Monitor and report on project progress
Plan inspections and obtain construction permits from local authorities
Order the appropriate equipment and arrange for regular maintenance
Keep track of material stock and orders
Ensure the job site is safe, clean, and orderly and resolve on-site issues and emergencies
Follow company and federal rules, policies, and procedures  wear required safety equipment, respond to and act on safety concerns

What We Need from You:


Must be 18 years of age or older with a High School diploma or equivalent
2 or more years experience in track inspection and maintenance
Previous experience as a foreman or superintendent in railroad construction industry
Willing to submit to a background check, pre-employment drug screening, and random drug tests
Must pass all required assessments/trainings
Knowledge of local quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites and an in-depth understanding of construction operations and processes
Must have a great attitude, the ability to motivate team members on site, and strong organizational and time-management skills
Proficiency in MS Office
Accountability and integrity are essential as the decisions made in the role affect countless others
Willing to work in all weather conditions (extreme hot, cold, rain, snow, sleet, etc.)
Recognize, avoid, and report potential hazards
Willing and able to travel to various job sites, including those that require overnight stay and short notice mobilization
Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, crawl, and crouch; climb stairs and/or ladders; use hands to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjust focus
