The Role

The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC) is seeking a committed and dynamic Field Organizer to grow and support grassroots social justice efforts—primarily in Texas, with additional engagement across the Reform Movement’s state-based organizing work. This position plays a critical role in advancing our mission to build a more just, equitable, and inclusive society, grounded in Jewish values and powered by community organizing. Working closely with clergy, lay leaders, and youth, the Field Organizer will strengthen local leadership, mobilize communities, and lead strategic campaigns that defend democracy, expand civic engagement, and promote racial equity. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate organizer to shape grassroots action across diverse Jewish communities and partner with others working toward shared goals.

What You Will Do

The Field Organizer will report to the Assistant Director of Organizing, and is responsible for the following:

  • Develop and Execute Organizing Campaigns: Lead strategic campaigns that protect democracy, advance racial equity, and promote belonging, with an emphasis on leadership development, training, and mobilization.

  • Strengthen Statewide Leadership: Build and support leadership structures in Texas and other states by identifying, training, and empowering clergy, lay leaders, and teens in community organizing principles and practices.

  • Mobilize and Expand the Base: Inspire individuals within and beyond congregations to participate in Reform Movement campaigns such as Every Voice, Every Vote, and recruit others to join these efforts.

  • Advance Movement-Wide Priorities: Align state-based organizing efforts with broader Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) priorities and contribute to cross-departmental goals.

Who You Are

You are an experienced and values-driven organizer who thrives on building relationships, empowering others, and mobilizing communities toward meaningful action. You’re passionate about justice, grounded in Jewish values, and excited to work collaboratively to grow a powerful, grassroots movement.

Keys to Success (the must-haves)

  • Community Organizing & Campaign Strategy: Ability to design and lead grassroots campaigns, build coalitions, and mobilize communities to take collective action around social justice issues.

  • Leadership Development & Training: Skilled in identifying potential leaders and equipping them—clergy, laypeople, and teens alike—with tools, knowledge, and confidence to organize effectively.

  • Relationship Building & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to build trust, motivate diverse stakeholders, and communicate clearly across virtual and in-person settings.

  • Cultural Competence & Equity Orientation: Deep understanding of and sensitivity to racial equity, inclusion, and multiracial democracy, with a commitment to creating inclusive spaces rooted in Jewish values.

  • Project Management & Self-Direction: Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting needs in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

  • Collaborative Teamwork: Ability to work effectively within a values-driven team, share leadership, and contribute to a supportive, mission-aligned organizational culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in community organizing, advocacy, political campaigns, or related grassroots movement work

  • Familiarity with Texas political, social, and religious landscapes—or demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to local context

  • Understanding of the Reform Jewish community or experience working within faith-based or multifaith organizing spaces (preferred but not required)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience with public speaking, group facilitation, and digital engagement

  • Comfort working remotely with proficiency in tools such as Zoom, Google Workspace, and other organizing or CRM platforms

  • Willingness to travel (primarily within Texas, with occasional national travel) and availability for some evening or weekend work
