Join the team at Lone Star Family Health Center as a Medical Assistant, where you’ll play a key role in delivering compassionate, high-quality care to our patients. This is a permanent, full-time position in a supportive clinical environment that values teamwork, professional growth, and patient-centered service. You’ll work closely with providers and staff to ensure patients receive timely, efficient care in accordance with clinic policies and quality standards.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked clinical environment to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Conduct pre-visit planning and initiate screenings to identify necessary labs, vaccines, or tests based on UDS measures and CDC guidelines.
- Prepare patients for examination by obtaining vital signs, reviewing the reason for visit, completing medication reconciliation, verifying allergies and pharmacy, and documenting recent ER visits or hospitalizations.
- Perform blood draws, heel sticks, waived tests, and corresponding quality control procedures while ensuring accurate patient identification and order verification.
- Accurately label and process laboratory specimens according to clinic policies and standards.
- Monitor and manage patient flow, communicating delays and expectations clearly with providers and patients.
- Coordinate continuity of care through scheduling, patient outreach, and communication with the healthcare team via phone, written, or electronic means.
- Assist with medication refills, durable medical equipment (DME) requests, and specialist referrals as needed.
- Provide chaperone support during sensitive exams, including breast, pelvic, and testicular exams.
- Set up and assist with in-office procedures by gathering instruments, materials, and providing provider support during the visit.
- Clean, prepare, and process instruments for sterilization in compliance with infection control standards and autoclave procedures.
- Adhere to infection prevention protocols, including hand hygiene, PPE use, safe injection practices, and proper biohazard disposal.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient medical records.
- Provide translation and support with patient communication as needed to ensure comprehension and engagement.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is required
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Medical Assistant training or certification preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
