Orthopaedic Associates of Maine (OAM) is seeking a dynamic, experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated and accomplished RN leader to join Maine’s premier orthopaedic team and shape the future of surgical care delivery in a top-tier, patient-focused environment.

 

About the Role:

As the Director of Nursing, you will be the cornerstone of our clinical leadership—responsible for the oversight of daily operations, patient care excellence, regulatory compliance, infection prevention, and quality/performance improvement programs. You will lead and mentor a dedicated team of professionals in a collaborative, state-of-the-art surgical environment that values innovation, accountability, and patient-centered care.

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Provide clinical leadership and strategic direction for ASC nursing staff and operations
  • Champion AAAHC, AORN, AAMI, and APIC standards and best practices
  • Drive initiatives in quality assurance, patient safety, infection prevention, and performance improvement
  • Maintain continuous regulatory compliance and preparedness for audits/accreditation
  • Collaborate with surgeons, executive leadership, and the broader care team to enhance the patient experience
  • Supervise scheduling, staffing, and professional development of all nursing personnel
  • Monitor clinical outcomes, evaluate trends, and lead QAPI activities
  • Contribute to capital planning, budgeting, and vendor evaluation/contracting
  • Serve as a key leader in emergency readiness, environmental safety, and compliance

 

What We’re Looking For:

 

Required:

  • RN License (Active and in good standing)
  • BLS and ACLS Certification
  • Minimum 3–5 years perioperative nursing experience
  • Prior experience as a Director of Nursing in an ASC setting
  • 3+ years of leadership/management experience
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven experience with supply chain and operational oversight

 

Preferred:

  • BSN degree
  • CNOR certification
  • AAAHC survey experience
  • Background in managing budgets, regulatory reviews, and staff development
  • Experience managing a healthcare operation
