Orthopaedic Associates of Maine (OAM) is seeking a dynamic, experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated and accomplished RN leader to join Maine’s premier orthopaedic team and shape the future of surgical care delivery in a top-tier, patient-focused environment.About the Role:
As the Director of Nursing, you will be the cornerstone of our clinical leadership—responsible for the oversight of daily operations, patient care excellence, regulatory compliance, infection prevention, and quality/performance improvement programs. You will lead and mentor a dedicated team of professionals in a collaborative, state-of-the-art surgical environment that values innovation, accountability, and patient-centered care.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide clinical leadership and strategic direction for ASC nursing staff and operations
- Champion AAAHC, AORN, AAMI, and APIC standards and best practices
- Drive initiatives in quality assurance, patient safety, infection prevention, and performance improvement
- Maintain continuous regulatory compliance and preparedness for audits/accreditation
- Collaborate with surgeons, executive leadership, and the broader care team to enhance the patient experience
- Supervise scheduling, staffing, and professional development of all nursing personnel
- Monitor clinical outcomes, evaluate trends, and lead QAPI activities
- Contribute to capital planning, budgeting, and vendor evaluation/contracting
- Serve as a key leader in emergency readiness, environmental safety, and compliance
What We’re Looking For:
Required:
- RN License (Active and in good standing)
- BLS and ACLS Certification
- Minimum 3–5 years perioperative nursing experience
- Prior experience as a Director of Nursing in an ASC setting
- 3+ years of leadership/management experience
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Proven experience with supply chain and operational oversight
Preferred:
- BSN degree
- CNOR certification
- AAAHC survey experience
- Background in managing budgets, regulatory reviews, and staff development
- Experience managing a healthcare operation
