Join our client's dynamic team as a strategic Portfolio & Value Manager. In this role, you'll ensure initiatives align perfectly with member needs, team member success, and enterprise strategy while delivering measurable outcomes.
What You'll Do
As a Portfolio & Value Manager, you'll be the driving force behind value-based decisions throughout the portfolio lifecycle—from creative ideation to successful implementation. You'll translate strategy into action, ensure investment-ready initiatives, anticipate risks, and provide crucial visibility into portfolio health across the enterprise.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Partnership
- Partner with business, technology, and governance leaders to translate strategic themes into initiatives with clear value hypotheses
- Coach leaders to enhance portfolio fluency and stewardship capabilities
- Navigate organizational dynamics, address resistance, and adapt messaging to influence stakeholders at all levels
Intake & Discovery
- Evaluate initiative submissions for readiness, proper segmentation, and value clarity
- Lead epic discovery by framing business problems, identifying risks early, and confirming investment readiness
- Step in as discovery coach when momentum slows or clarity is needed
- Ensure discovery outcomes are achieved for all investment candidates
Investment & Prioritization
- Provide expert guidance on segmentation, prioritization, and sequencing while balancing strategic priorities with portfolio capacity
- Apply analytical judgment to evaluate initiative value, viability, feasibility, and risks
- Coordinate portfolio adjustments when delivery demands require scope changes
Implementation Oversight
- Monitor implementation to ensure alignment with intended value, scope, and impact
- Anticipate necessary pivots, escalate portfolio risks, and recommend course corrections
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Delivery Managers, and Change Leaders to maintain outcome clarity during execution
Value & Impact
- Frame and track value expectations with stakeholders, focusing on measuring outcomes rather than just outputs
- Conduct post-implementation value realization reviews and incorporate learnings into future portfolio cycles
- Provide governance bodies and executives with insights into realized outcomes and key lessons
Visibility & Insights
- Prepare comprehensive strategic portfolio health reviews and maintain Strategic Business roadmaps
- Track and report portfolio status and progress toward initiative execution, including milestones and metrics
- Synthesize insights across intake, discovery, and implementation to highlight enterprise patterns and value signals
- Create executive-ready narratives that connect initiatives, enabling informed strategic decision-making
- Analyze portfolio data to identify risks, inform prioritization, and highlight resource constraints
- Build and maintain relationships with business units, team members, management, and external partners
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Strategy, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- SAFe Lean Portfolio Management Certification (or equivalent)
- Experience with portfolio management, product management, and executive communication
Experience
- Proven ability to manage and advise large, enterprise-wide portfolios or initiatives, preferably in financial services
- Deep knowledge of portfolio management methodologies, strategic planning, and value realization practices
- Strong understanding of Agile, Lean Portfolio Management, and value delivery models
- Experience in product development, portfolio governance, executive communication, and strategic value realization
