POSITION DESCRIPTION

The main duties include, but are not limited to:

· Primary responsibilities include engineering task analysis, walk-downs, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Location  Plans, Connection Diagrams, Conduit / Block Diagrams, Logic Diagrams, Panel Detail Drawings, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, and Battery Loading  Calculations in accordance with national consensus codes and standards,

· Provide technical support to site construction forces, start-up & testing, suppliers or subcontract personnel. Prepare Data Sheets, Statements of Work, Procurement Specifications, Design Build Specifications, and Purchase Requisitions,

·  Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures,

· Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems,

· Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, to resolve complex problems,

·  Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning,

· Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise,

·  Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering or scientific principles,

· Evaluate the results of programs and prepares reports and recommendations based on these evaluations,

· Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution,

·  Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology,

·   Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management,

· Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed,

· Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscripts form to customers colleagues and  management,

·Occasionally prepare reports for external publication,

· Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

·  Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years’ experience,

· OR A MS with 8+ years’ experience,

· OR A BS with 10+ years’ experience or more,

·  Graduate of an ABET accredited Fire Protection Engineering program,

·Registered Professional Engineer in Fire Protection,

·  Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) NICET Level III/IV certification in the Fire Alarm, Detection and Signaling area of expertise,

·   Professional or Fellow Member in the SFPE.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·  Candidate must demonstrate 10 years of recent design experience, four (4) of which shall be in the following area of expertise: Fire Alarm, Detection and Signaling Design - General knowledge of electrical/control systems, connection diagrams, layout plans, logic diagrams, panel layout details, P&ID’s, and battery loading calculations,

·   Working knowledge of NFPA Codes and Standards, and National Consensus Codes and Standards such as NFPA 13, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 90A, NFPA 101, IBC, and various other ISA and IEEE standards,

·   Experience with 2D MicroStation Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD),

· Ability to operate Windows Microsoft Office Applications,

·  Ability to work in a diverse work environment,

· Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening in accordance with Federal requirements (details below),

· Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

·  Previous experience on DOE sites and programs,

·   Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred,

·   Previous SRS Design Engineering or DOE facility experience,

·   Proficiency in using MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software,

·  Previous SRS design experience and familiarity with the processes and procedures for providing engineering support to SRS facilities.

LOCATION

· Aiken, South Carolina

· Anticipated Work Schedule:

· Mon-Thurs 6:45a-5:15p

·  Onsite or Remote? 100% Onsite. Local candidates or willing to relocate at the candidate's expense.
