The Role

The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) seeks a Development Director to advance the mission and impact of the 6 Points Specialty Camps—Sports, Creative Arts, and Sci-Tech. These camps offer far more than exceptional specialty experiences; they build confidence, spark curiosity, cultivate Jewish identity, and create communities of belonging where young people feel seen and valued. In this role, you will steward and grow a strong foundation of donor support across annual, major, and long-term giving. You’ll partner closely with camp directors, lay leaders, alumni, and families to build a culture of philanthropy that reflects the joy, pride, and transformative impact of camp. This is a meaningful opportunity for a relational, strategic fundraiser who thrives in purpose-driven environments and believes in the power of camp to change lives.

What You Will Do

Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy in collaboration with camp directors and lay leaders.
  • Use donor insights and data to strengthen engagement and grow annual, major, and long-term giving.
  • Elevate the 6 Points brand through clear, values-driven storytelling and donor-centered messaging.
  • Ensure fundraising activities align with URJ priorities and uphold exceptional stewardship and transparency.

Relationship Management

  • Build and steward a pipeline of major donors in partnership with camp leadership and volunteer committees.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts from individuals, foundations, and partner organizations.
  • Create meaningful donor touchpoints—including events and gatherings—that deepen connection and celebrate impact.
  • Support and coach lay leaders and volunteers in outreach, strengthening networks and expanding donor engagement.

Development Operations

  • Oversee development operations including gift processing, acknowledgments, and stewardship workflows.
  • Manage and maintain Salesforce donor records with accuracy and attention to data integrity.
  • Prepare clear, timely fundraising reports for staff, lay leadership, and stakeholders.
  • Lead grant writing and reporting, and identify new funding opportunities that advance camp priorities.
  • Craft high-quality donor communications in collaboration with camp directors and design partners.

Who You Are

You are a relationship-centered fundraiser who brings clarity, curiosity, and heart to your work. You care deeply about mission-driven spaces and believe in the power of camp and community to change lives. You are energized by building partnerships, telling compelling stories, and creating spaces of belonging where donors feel connected and inspired.

Keys to Success

You will succeed in this role if you:

  • Build trust and relationships with ease. You listen deeply, connect authentically, and enjoy learning what motivates donors.
  • Lead with strategy and intention. You see the big picture, anticipate needs, and design thoughtful approaches that strengthen long-term sustainability.
  • Communicate with clarity and heart. You write well, tell compelling stories, and can translate impact into meaningful donor action.
  • Navigate complexity confidently. You manage multiple projects and stakeholders with steadiness, adaptability, and focus.
  • Use data and systems to inform your work. You appreciate that strong fundraising depends on strong operational practices.
  • Thrive in partnership. You enjoy working closely with colleagues and lay leaders and invest in shared success.
  • Champion communities of belonging. You bring genuine passion for camp, community building, and creating spaces where every person feels seen, welcomed, and valued.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in fundraising or a related field such as nonprofit management, community engagement, or relationship-based roles.
  • Demonstrated experience cultivating and stewarding donor or stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong communication and writing skills, including experience crafting donor-facing materials.
  • Comfort working with a variety of stakeholders—donors, families, alumni, volunteers, and colleagues.
  • Basic familiarity with donor databases or CRM systems; Salesforce experience is a plus.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for donor meetings, camp visits, and events; some evenings or weekends as needed.
