    Position Summary

    The Infection Control Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive infection prevention and control program designed to protect patients, staff, and the community from healthcare-associated infections. This role involves surveillance and data analysis, outbreak investigation, policy development, and education to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The position collaborates with healthcare providers, staff, and public health agencies, conducts risk assessments, provides training, and oversees the Infection Control Committee. Additional responsibilities include managing infection-related reporting and ensuring adequate supplies within budgetary limits.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Coordinate the Infection Prevention and Control program, including surveillance, data analysis, reporting, policy development, and training.
    • Investigate and respond to infectious disease outbreaks using epidemiological principles and statistical methods.
    • Provide consultation and education to staff, providers, and community leaders on infection control practices.
    • Oversee the Infection Control Committee, organize meetings, maintain minutes, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Conduct annual and as-needed risk assessments based on population, regional vulnerabilities, and emerging diseases.
    • Collect infection data, maintain records, and report to health departments as required.
    • Deliver infection control education during new hire orientation and annually for all employees.
    • Collaborate with Procurement to manage infection control supplies and budget.
    • Direct and evaluate the day-to-day functions of the Infection Control Preventionist.

    Required Qualifications

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or other healthcare field required
    • Master’s degree preferred

    Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years of healthcare or public health experience
    • Minimum 4 years in Infection Control, Prevention, or Epidemiology in a supervisory role

    Licensure/Certifications:

    • Certification by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Prevention (CBIC) strongly preferred

    Core Competencies

    • Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and regulatory standards
    • Expertise in epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and aseptic techniques
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to create and deliver effective training presentations
    • Strategic thinking and organizational skills
    • Ability to multi-task, adapt to change, and make sound decisions under pressure

    Working Conditions

    • Primarily day shifts; evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
    • Physical activity includes sitting (50%), walking (30%), and standing (20%)
