Payroll Analyst – Finance
Role Summary
The Payroll Analyst is responsible for supporting the accurate and timely processing of payroll for Howard University Hospital. This role manages payroll cycle and non-cycle transactions, time and attendance validation, payroll adjustments, and compliance support. The Payroll Analyst works in coordination with Payroll leadership and Human Resources to ensure payroll accuracy, regulatory compliance, and effective service delivery across the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Process bi-weekly payroll cycles and non-cycle payroll transactions
- Review and manage payroll inquiries received through the Payroll department inbox
- Validate time and attendance data and ensure all timecards are approved prior to payroll processing
- Process payroll edits and adjustments in payroll and timekeeping systems
- Assist with annual W-2 processing and federal and state payroll filings
- Administer court-ordered employee garnishments, including setup, responses, and releases
- Support bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly payroll tax payments and filings
- Process employee pay changes, retroactive adjustments, bonuses, allowances, refunds, and other payroll transactions
- Provide payroll support to employees and department leaders to resolve questions or discrepancies
- Participate in payroll audits, policy updates, and process improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with Payroll leadership and Human Resources on payroll operations
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a complex or healthcare environment
- Working knowledge of payroll best practices and federal and state payroll tax regulations
- Strong attention to detail, mathematical aptitude, and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with UKG/Kronos and Lawson payroll systems
- College coursework in Accounting
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)

Pay + Classification
Pay Range: $61,347 – $98,156 annually
Offers are determined based on relevant experience, education, and job-related skills.Grade: HA2-15
Union Status: Non-UnionSchedule: Primarily daytime hours; occasional evenings may be required
