We are seeking a Registered Nurse – Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) to join our fast-paced ambulatory surgery environment. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, self-motivated RN who enjoys patient education, care coordination, and partnering closely with providers to ensure safe, high-quality surgical outcomes.
As a PAT RN, you will play a critical role in preparing patients for surgery—serving as an advocate, educator, and clinical resource for both patients and families.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct comprehensive pre-admission screenings and assessments for patients scheduled for ambulatory surgery
- Identify allergies, medical conditions, and exclusion criteria using established protocols
- Coordinate and obtain required clearances, consults, and pre-surgical testing
- Perform pre-surgical testing including EKGs, blood draws, and nasal/oropharyngeal swabs
- Collaborate closely with providers to ensure all pre-surgical requirements are completed accurately and on time
- Provide clear, compassionate patient education to ensure understanding and comfort throughout the process
- Accurately document assessments, testing, and communications in the EMR
- Monitor daily PAT schedules and help coordinate an efficient workflow
- Serve as a clinical resource for PAT team members through strong assessment skills and clinical knowledge
- Proactively identify and help resolve patient safety concerns
What We’re Looking For
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Active Maine RN license or eligible for licensure
- 2+ years of clinical experience in a medical practice, hospital, or healthcare setting
- BLS certification (required)
- Orthopedic or ambulatory surgery experience is a plus
- Strong communication, organization, and care coordination skills
- Ability to work independently while thriving in a team-based environment
- Commitment to professionalism, patient confidentiality, and excellent customer service
- Comfort with EMR systems and general computer proficiency
