Role Overview
The Technical Data Steward for WIL is responsible for the technical management, protection, and optimization of data assets across Workplace Infrastructure & Logistics. This role ensures data is properly defined, secured, and leveraged to meet both operational and compliance requirements. The TDS acts as the primary technical resource for data governance, collaborating with divisional stewards, Enterprise Data Governance (EDG), and technical teams to drive alignment and operational excellence.Key Responsibilities
Technical Data Management
- Serve as the point of contact for technical data issues and questions within WIL divisions.
- Capture, maintain, and document data lineage and technical metadata for all WIL data assets.
- Make technical data recommendations on behalf of the Business Data Owner, ensuring alignment with business needs and compliance standards.
Governance & Compliance
- Partner with stakeholders to implement and enforce information security standards (e.g., encryption, RBAC) and controls.
- Drive compliance with EDG, DRG, RIM, EORM, and IMPO requirements; adapt to frequent changes in enterprise standards.
- Build, implement, and maintain SOPs for compliance across all WIL systems and processes.
- Track and manage all aspects of WIL’s data assets, including periodic audits and deliverables.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work directly with divisional TDS, ETS, and EDG/DRG for all technical aspects of governance.
- Liaise with business data stewards, managing data stewards, and technical support teams to resolve issues and deploy solutions.
- Ensure data decisions are communicated and technology groups understand impacts.
- Facilitate education and collaboration across WIL divisions through meetings, trainings, and bulletins.
Operational Excellence
- Assist with complex data analysis to support technical data governance decisions.
- Update data dictionaries, maintain metadata, and perform simple transformations on data elements as needed.
- Support execution of enterprise data governance policies through technology enablement.
- Identify and address skillset gaps in technical data stewardship; advocate for training and development as needed.
Special Projects & Systems
- Support special projects related to workplace systems, data quality implementation, and connector/device integrations.
- Collaborate on strategic plans for WIL’s alignment with enterprise data governance and risk management.
- Collaborate with technology security teams to complete annual and ad hoc projects within WIL.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in data cataloging, metadata collection, business glossary, data lineage, master data management, and metadata quality monitoring.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement data governance capabilities in complex environments.
- Working knowledge of data governance best practices and technical processes relevant to WIL’s operational systems, including facility management and administrative services.
- Strong analytical, communication, and root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to balance business needs with technical capabilities and adapt to a fluid governance landscape.
- Desired: Knowledge of workplace infrastructure systems, compliance frameworks, and enterprise data governance trends.
