    Role Summary

    Howard University Hospital is seeking an experienced Anesthesia Technician to support safe, efficient, and high-quality anesthesia care across perioperative and procedural environments. This role is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and troubleshooting anesthesia equipment and supplies, assisting anesthesia providers during procedures, and ensuring operating rooms and anesthetizing locations are fully prepared to support patient care. The Anesthesia Technician plays a critical role in supporting surgical readiness, emergency response, and patient safety.

    What You’ll Do

    • Prepare, set up, clean, and maintain anesthesia machines, IV poles, monitors, pumps, transducers, and related equipment in operating rooms and anesthetizing locations
    • Assist anesthesia providers with room preparation for scheduled, emergency, and trauma cases
    • Set up IV infusion pumps, blood warmers, rapid infusion systems, and cardiac output monitoring equipment
    • Prepare and flush arterial, PA, and CVP monitoring lines as requested
    • Assist with IV starts, arterial blood sampling, and point-of-care testing as assigned
    • Monitor, stock, and replenish anesthesia supplies, medications, emergency kits, and gas cylinders
    • Troubleshoot anesthesia equipment issues and coordinate repairs or replacement parts as needed
    • Clean and disinfect anesthesia equipment and work areas in accordance with Infection Control standards
    • Assist with patient transport to and from the operating room or critical care areas when required
    • Communicate professionally and collaboratively with anesthesia providers, nursing staff, patients, and families
    • Support training and orientation of new staff and residents on anesthesia equipment and supply processes
    • Perform other related duties consistent with the role and department needs

    Required Qualifications

    Education & Training

    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • Completion of an Anesthesia Technician training program required
    • Associate degree preferred

    Experience

    • Four (4) years of Anesthesia Technician experience or closely related anesthesia support experience

    Certifications

    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Knowledge of anesthesia equipment, procedures, and support processes
    • Ability to troubleshoot anesthesia machinery and equipment issues
    • Ability to respond effectively in emergency and high-stress situations
    • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety and infection control standards
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary clinical teams

    Pay + Schedule

    • Hourly Pay Range: $17.80 – $28.48
    • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
    • Weekends: None
    • Union: Local 2094
    • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
