Manager, Laboratory Operations
Role Summary
The Manager, Laboratory Operations provides day-to-day operational leadership for Laboratory Services, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient diagnostic services for patients of all ages. This role oversees laboratory workflows, quality systems, staffing, regulatory readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives while partnering closely with Pathology leadership and clinical stakeholders.
What You’ll Do
- Manage daily laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards
- Oversee proficiency testing programs, quality assurance indicators, turnaround times, and corrective actions
- Lead method selection, validation, and implementation of new laboratory instruments and technologies
- Prepare the laboratory for inspections and maintain ongoing readiness for regulatory surveys
- Monitor staffing levels, productivity, overtime utilization, and volume trends to support service demands
- Develop, review, and maintain laboratory policies, procedures, and technical documentation
- Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CAP, CLIA, OSHA, AABB, FDA, and other applicable standards
- Establish performance metrics aligned with best practices in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
- Partner with hospital leadership, pathologists, nursing, and laboratory staff to support clinical operations
- Develop and support laboratory education and in-service programs across all sections
Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related science
- Medical Technologist certification (ASCP) required
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in an accredited laboratory
- At least two (2) years of laboratory supervisory or administrative experience
Core Competencies
- Proven ability to plan, direct, and supervise laboratory personnel
- Strong knowledge of laboratory quality systems and regulatory requirements
- Experience with laboratory information systems and computerized instrumentation
- Ability to analyze operational, productivity, and financial data
- Strong written and verbal communication and professional judgment
- Ability to develop and manage budgets, policies, and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary clinical teams

Pay + Schedule
- Pay Range: $84,680 – $135,488
- FLSA Status: Exempt
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM; weekends as operationally required
- Union Status: Non-Union
