ABOUT THE POSITION

The Designer position at Astec prepares and/or modifies drawings for Astec’s new and existing manufactured heavy equipment machines including but not limited to portable chippers, delimber/debarkers, combination delimber/debarker/chippers with loaders, grinders, recyclers (hogs), and blow trucks. Responsibility to work effectively with Engineers to design, document, and revise drawings for new and existing products.

 

Key Deliverables

· Design components for products.

· Ensure designing task comply with company quality procedure systems.

· Develop test prototypes.

· Provide solutions to improve production efficiency.

· Maintain open communication with internal customers in regard to designs and changes.

 

Key Activities & Responsibilities

· Takes active participation in design reviews, design releases, design changes and the development of all products when asked.

· Performs mechanical design using 3-D modeling in Inventor and AutoCAD.

· Effectively communicates with internal customers regarding designs and changes.

· Reads, understands, and discusses technical requirements, articles, plans, drawings, etc.

· Ensures that his/her designing tasks conform to the company quality system procedures as documented.

· Determines and follows quality and safety requirements, from a product design perspective, in accordance with company needs, based on current standards, and best design practices.

· Receives guidance on technical issues from the Product Engineers and Engineering Manager.

· Understands basic principles of bill of material and engineering master generation and maintenance.

· Use ERP and CAD systems to acquire accurate data for models, drawings, and bill of materials, and to process an engineering change request

· Keeps all engineering clerical tasks up to date and filed properly.

 

To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:

· Associate degree in drafting and design, electrical engineering, engineering technology, or equivalent.

· 3+ years AutoCAD/Inventor experience.

· Certification in mechanical drafting/designing a plus.

· Proficiency with 3-D CAD systems is required, preferably with Inventor/AutoCAD

· The candidate shall be proficient in the use of GD&T standards.

· Ability to apply appropriate blueprint symbols to drawings.

· Effective communication skills.

· Effectively communicate, be able to interface between all internal departments, and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

· Other important skills are creativity, attention to detail, problem-solving, technical knowledge, excellent multi-tasking, and good three-dimensional conceptual ability.

Office
