JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Chief of Staff serves as a trusted partner to the CEO and Chief of Staff, providing critical support in executive and board-level communications, ensuring strategic alignment across the organization, and driving execution of high-priority initiatives.
This role offers exceptional exposure to senior leadership, board-level strategy, and cross-functional problem-solving in a dynamic, high-growth energy company. RESPONSIBILITIES
Typical job responsibilities of the Assistant Chief of Staff include:
Support Strategic Storytelling
- Build and refine PowerPoint slides and executive narratives for CEO-driven storylines
- Prepare Board & Executive Leadership Team (ELT) materials: presentations, briefing documents, strategic updates
- Coordinate and support facilitation of ELT and Board meetings
- Capture meeting notes, action items, and follow-ups to ensure execution
- Ensure processes and documentation align with public market and corporate governance requirements
Facilitate Cross-Organizational Collaboration
- Partner with leaders across all functions and business units to gather insights and align with corporate strategy
- Track and escalate cross-functional risks and issues requiring CEO/ELT attention
- Build trusted relationships serving as a bridge between the CEO office and business units
Contribute to Project Management
- Support the Chief of Staff in coordinating Strategic Realization Office projects
- Design project plans, monitor milestones, timelines, RAID logs, and deliverables
- Provide structured follow-up to ensure accountability across functions
Conduct Research & Analysis
- Research emerging topics, competitive moves, and industry trends
- Synthesize findings into concise briefs and data-driven recommendations
- Support decision-making with context, benchmarks, and fact-based analysis
Drive Process Improvements
- Identify bottlenecks in executive deliverables and meeting readiness
- Recommend and implement tools, templates, and processes to improve efficiency
- Standardize workflows to reduce rework and improve responsiveness
Provide Hands-on Execution
- Step in on urgent priorities to maintain momentum
- Manage ad-hoc requests requiring rapid turnaround and executive polish
- Support decision-making by providing context, benchmarks, and fact-based analysis.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Exceptional ability to translate complex topics into concise narratives, slides, and briefing documents. Example: You've built board decks, investment memos, or C-suite presentations that influenced high-stakes decisions
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills; ability to conduct market, competitor, and financial research. Example: You're comfortable building financial models and synthesizing competitive intelligence into actionable insights
- Skilled in coordinating multiple stakeholders, timelines, and deliverables under pressure
- Ability to quickly learn new industries and technologies and synthesize findings into actionable insights
- Comfortable engaging with senior executives. Example: You've partnered with senior leaders (VP+) to gather input, align stakeholders, and drive projects to completion
- Advanced PowerPoint and Excel/Smartsheet; familiarity with collaboration tools (SharePoint, Teams)
- Self-driven, highly responsive under tight deadlines, and proactive in identifying issues and proposing solutions
- Strong ownership mindset with ability to operate independently and in cross-functional teams
- High attention to detail with ability to simplify complexity for executives
- Ability to influence without authority

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPA, or related) strongly preferred
- 5-7 years in management consulting, investment banking, corporate strategy, or energy sector roles
- Proven track record building executive-level presentations, analyses, and briefing materials
- Experience in fast-paced, high-expectation environments with senior leadership exposure
STRONGLY PREFERRED:
- Experience in natural gas, upstream, midstream, power generation, or CCUS sectors
- Exposure to public company governance, investor relations, or board-level materials
- Prior work in Chief of Staff, CEO office, or similar strategic support function
- Success influencing and building credibility with C-suite executives
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position may be based at the BKV Office in Denver, CO, Fort Worth, TX, or Houston TX, with flexibility for hybrid or remote arrangements for exceptional candidates
- Occasional travel to Denver for strategic planning, board meetings, and collaboration (up to 20%)
- Work Environment: Primarily office-based with standard business hours; extended hours may be required depending on business needs. May occasionally be exposed to distracting noise while sharing office space with others.

SALARY RANGE
- Base $79k-$150k (based on experience and qualifications)
- Performance-based annual bonus: 20% of base salary
