Schedule: 4x10 Night Shift (8:00 PM - 6:30 AM), Sunday-Wednesday

Facility: Equinix DC15/DC16 Data Center

About This Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to join our client's infrastructure team. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating, monitoring, administering, and servicing critical technical environments. You'll perform hands-on implementation work, integration activities, and provide operational support that keeps our client's data center running smoothly 24/7.

As a Data Center Technician, you will manage and maintain network infrastructure while ensuring optimal security and performance. This position offers the opportunity to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and make meaningful contributions to enterprise operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform network installation and maintenance including rack and stack, cabling, and parts replacement
  • Execute server installation and maintenance tasks such as hardware installation, memory upgrades, CPU replacement, RAID battery maintenance, and NIC configuration
  • Support data center staging, deployment, and logistics/asset management activities
  • Participate in site builds and refreshes while maintaining current quality standards
  • Troubleshoot and repair data center hardware; manage moves, additions, and changes with component replacement expertise
  • Install enterprise-grade fiber and copper cabling according to industry standards with minimal supervision
  • Perform fiber and copper cable testing and terminate Cat 6 cabling
  • Create, update, and maintain rack elevations within DCIM applications (Nlyte)
  • Maintain accurate inventory control and documentation of systems and components
  • Troubleshoot incidents and problems; escalate issues appropriately to resolve outages and performance degradation
  • Interface with other IT teams and vendors to ensure timely resolution of technical issues
  • Provide status reports on active and resolved issues
  • Maintain, configure, and perform preventative maintenance on network and data center equipment
  • Operate out-of-band management and KVM systems (DSVIEW)
  • Manage power distribution units (PDUs) and load management
  • Work with team members to update and document procedures and maintain detailed site reference documentation
  • Adhere to data center safety standards and lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. as needed
  • Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned based on operational needs

Required Qualifications

  • Intermediate data center and IT operations experience
  • Knowledge of software and hardware tools used in day-to-day data center functions
  • Understanding of LAN/WAN topologies, protocols, and standards
  • Excellent communication and written grammar skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 operational environment with flexibility for on-call rotation and after-hours support
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Capability to perform effectively under pressure with urgent problems, tight deadlines, and changing priorities
  • Familiarity with network cabling types, distance limitations, testing methods, connectors, and proper handling
  • Knowledge of electrical and optical transceivers (SFP+, QSFP+, GLCT, DAC, CFP2, DWDM)
  • Familiarity with server hardware and components
  • Understanding of electrical standards, connector types, power budget calculations, and AC/DC power systems
  • Knowledge of data center design principles related to heat dissipation and airflow
  • Strong attention to detail with meticulous organization of cabling systems
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized work approach

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive data center experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
  • Experience and technical training in WAN/LAN communications including installation, basic configuration, and maintenance of Cisco routers and switches
  • Experience presenting technical solutions and recommendations
  • Knowledge of electronic principles as they relate to diagnosing and troubleshooting IT system issues
  • Understanding of technical inter-relationships between software/hardware and desktop/LAN/host systems
  • Advanced skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex technical issues
  • Advanced research, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Knowledge of our client's operations and business environment
