Job Summary:
The Technical Designer II is non-licensed and responsible for specific design and production aspects of an assigned project. Responsible for specific technical design aspects of a project. Leads on the production of design documents for bidding, approvals, and construction. Is charged with investigating and recommending solutions that best meet the Client’s needs. Provides professional architectural input in the planning, design, and coordination of complex projects. Works independently to apply advanced architecture concepts. Carries out complex assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. May be responsible for providing technical guidance to and oversight of less experienced architectural staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Works under minimum supervision to prepare finished drawings from very complex sketches, notes, layouts, details, and verbal instructions.
2. Analyzes sketches, notes, and other input materials to determine and plan the best approach to develop and complete the drawings with minimal supervision.
3. Utilizes company CAD and REVIT standards effectively to maintain a high level of productivity.
4. Accuracy, quality, completeness, and schedule adherence can be independently maintained at this level of experience.
5. Contribute thoughtful design ideas or propose changes to advance the quality and efficiency of a design.
6. Will perform at times in a designer capacity involving their discipline.
7. Will check drawings for quality assurance purposes.
8. May be required to prepare design calculations.
9. Required to learn the firm’s project management and practice standards.
10. Basic knowledge and use of Architectural Codes, including ADA and Fair Housing.
11. Continuing education to improve technical knowledge and skills through outside and in-house programs, seminars, training sessions, site visits, trade periodicals, and other resources.
12. Direct the work and manage time of junior staff and Interns.
13. All other duties as apparent or assigned.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in architecture or applicable degree program
Experience
6 years minimum
Computer Skills:
Autodesk Revit
Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
Certificates, License, Registrations:
None required
Work Environment:
Most duties are performed in climate-controlled office environment. However, on occasion Project Architect will be required to visit construction sites to check on progress of project. This may include exposure to heat and/or cold as well as we or humid weather conditions.
Physical Demands:
- Sit at computer/desk for approximately two-thirds of a normal workday.
- Able to stand/walk around jobs sites for period of 30 minutes or more as needed. This would include ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
- Vision – ability to work on CAD/Revit drawings on a computer for extended periods of time – approximately two-thirds of most days.
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds.
