Title: Accounting Manager
Location: Columbia, MO (Fully in office)
This is a management position that leads the preparation and review of ledger entries and reconciliations, supporting leadership decision-making in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and accounting practices.
As a dynamic and resourceful professional, we will rely on you to perform the following duties:
- Manage monthly and quarterly accounting for the preparation of GAAP, statutory and financial reports and supporting analysis relating to the business. Work with financial and operational management to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
- Maintain all related financial statement records and documentation. Maintain the General Ledger and related systems; responsible for implementation new accounting modules/technology;
- Internal Reporting (management, board, etc.) – working closely working FP&A and external financial reporting teams to compile and issue key internal reports for management, the Board and other constituents.
- Maintain strong internal controls in the accounting department, including reconciliation of key accounts to supporting sub-ledger or detail.
- Assist with production of the premium tax reporting and related statutory state reporting.
- Provide supervision and guidance to staff accountants.
- Identify ways to continuously improve the monthly accounting close process through technology and process enhancements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, or related field.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- 4+ years of years of public accounting experience or relevant experience in multiple disciplines including financial reporting, general accounting, accounting operations.
- Team player, able to forge strong working relationships across the business.
- Highly analytical and data-driven.
- Forward thinking with high energy and drive.
- Leadership presence with the ability to communicate and manage at various organizational levels.
- Strong problem-solving skills coupled with the ability to offer decisions based on an accurate and timely analysis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- CPA and SEC reporting experience preferred.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to identify and prioritize tasks.
- Insurance industry experience, knowledge of insurance statutory accounting principles a plus.
- Strong computer skills including knowledge of computer financial applications, ERP packages, and Consolidation and Reporting Systems are preferred.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
