POSITION PURPOSE

The General Construction Instructor is responsible for delivering a 10 week, hands on construction training program designed to prepare students for careers in the construction trades. This role includes planning and delivering lessons, managing class schedules, and overseeing the workshop environment. The General Construction Instructor will maintain accountability for equipment tools, ensure a safe and organized workspace, and coordinate the ordering of materials and supplies necessary for training activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Report to work in a timely manner at assigned work hours.

· Develop and deliver comprehensive lesson plans covering construction principles and practices.

· Provide hands-on training in safety protocols and building codes.

· Assess student progress through evaluations, quizzes, and practical demonstrations.

· Facilitate discussions on industry trends, tools, and technologies.

· Collaborate with industry professionals to enhance curriculum relevance and effectiveness.

· Work with the Director of Education Services to ensure all supplies and tools are ordered for classes.

· Control and monitor all inventory/tools/equipment used as a part of teaching class.

· Create cost analysis report for class.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum Qualifications

· Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, Building Trades or related fields and/or relevant industry certifications (OSHA, State Licenses in plumbing, HVAC, welding, electrical) or a minimum of 5 to 7 years of documented hands-on experience across multiple trades (general construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding)

· Strong working knowledge of OSHA safety standards

· Certified in OHSA-60 within 6 months of hire. (Training provided on-site).

· One year of experience in a supervisory position within manufacturing/industrial setting.

· Experience teaching, training or mentoring adults/youth in a classroom lab or job site setting. Strong classroom management, documentation and student evaluation skills.

· Established or willing to establish industry connections with local contractors, subs, suppliers and trade professionals that can be leveraged for guest instruction, demonstrations, job site tours and workshops, work-based learning, internships/pre-apprenticeship, employer referrals and job placement activities

· OHSA-60 training required within 6 months of hire. (Training provided on-site).

· Have strong carpentry skills, time management and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

· Have a strong working knowledge of carpentry principles, including scaffolding, framing, roofing, steps, interior/exterior systems, plumbing, electrical wiring, and drywall.

· Possess a valid driving license

 

Preferred Qualifications

· Ability to deliver NCCER Core and General Construction curriculum, draft syllabus and create / administer assessments and graded assignments.

· NCCER Instructor Certification (ICTP) completed or willingness to complete within 60 days

· NCCER Registry Number or ability to obtain

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Spend most of the time outdoors, frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures for one hour plus. Possible exposure to distraction/uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of body or extremities. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sitting, standing, walking, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.

HIRING RANGE: $25.00 to $29.00/hour
