About This Opportunity

We are seeking a Software Packaging Engineer to support our client's enterprise-wide End-of-Life (EOL) Software Management Initiative. Over time, their internal software catalog has accumulated a significant number of legacy, redundant, and unsupported applications. This initiative aims to identify, assess, and retire these titles to reduce risk, cost, and complexity across the organization. You will be responsible for analyzing installed software, evaluating usage and support status, and collaborating with stakeholders to plan and execute EOL strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support full lifecycle EOL software project activities
  • Coordinate with project managers and engineering teams
  • Manage risks, issues, and change requests
  • Ensure successful decommissioning of targeted software
  • Conduct environment-wide software discovery and usage analysis
  • Identify unsupported, vulnerable, and redundant software titles
  • Collaborate with security, compliance, and engineering teams to validate EOL candidates
  • Document findings, decisions, and remediation plans
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards and industry best practices
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on software lifecycle management
  • Present findings and recommendations to technical and business audiences
  • Execute standard packaging performance activities including pre-packaging research, packaging work, and quality control/validation
  • Manage MECM integration and application creation
  • Validate install/uninstall processes via MECM
  • Create and manage Active Directory groups for applications in test and production environments
  • Collaborate with customers during user acceptance testing (UAT)
  • Create user-centric collections via the User-Centric Right-Click Tool and manual query creation
  • Setup pilot and production deployments through MECM, including change management documentation
  • Retire and delete old software versions from Active Directory, MECM, and MDT
  • Communicate software retirement and deployment notifications to appropriate groups
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of software lifecycle and EOL processes
  • Proficiency in PowerShell, SQL, WQL, and Power BI
  • Experience with software inventory tools
  • Experience with Change Management Processes, including initiating, documenting, and submitting change tickets
  • Experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)
  • Experience with packaging, repackaging, and software deployment technologies
  • Familiarity with Windows 10/11, macOS, or VDI enterprise environments
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience with Splunk/UberAgent
  • Experience with InstallShield and Liquidware FlexApp
  • 3+ years of Software Package Engineering experience
