POSITION DESCRIPTION
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) supports the Nation’s nuclear deterrence mission through the production of plutonium pits, detonators, and other non-nuclear components while maintaining advanced manufacturing capabilities that support both national security and scientific missions.Within LANL, the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP) is responsible for executing production operations and expanding the Laboratory’s ability to support sustained pit and detonator production.
To support this mission, ALDWP has established the Production System Maturation (PSM) initiative. PSM focuses on strengthening the production enterprise through improvements across six strategic areas:
- Continuous Improvement
- Asset Management
- Digital Transformation
- Supply Chain
- Employee Development and Retention
- Continuous Operations
These efforts are intended to mature ALDWP’s production systems and infrastructure in support of long-term operational readiness.LANL is seeking contractor support to provide program management and integration assistance for activities within the PSM portfolio.
The contractor will provide program management and coordination support for the Production System Maturation initiative. The role will support planning, execution, and integration of activities that span multiple organizations within ALDWP.
Work performed under this task may include:
- Supporting development and maintenance of integrated program plans associated
- with PSM initiatives
- Coordinating activities across the six PSM focus areas and associated projects
- Supporting maturation of ALDWP’s production enterprise through integration of operational initiatives, digital systems, and production readiness improvements aligned with long-term pit and detonator production objectives
- Assisting with alignment of program activities to ALDWP production readiness goals and NNSA program expectations
- Developing and maintaining program management artifacts such as schedules, milestone tracking, and risk registers
- Facilitating coordination meetings and supporting program governance activities
- Monitoring progress against defined milestones and identifying risks or execution issues
- Assisting with preparation of reports, briefings, and status updates for Laboratory leadership and program stakeholders
- Supporting integration of related projects into a cohesive program structure
- The contractor will work with program leadership, technical staO, and partner organizations to support coordinated execution of the PSM initiative
Typical deliverables associated with this support may include:
- Integrated execution plans for PSM initiatives
- Program milestone tracking and schedule updates
- Risk and issue tracking documentation
- Monthly or periodic program status summaries
- Presentation materials for program reviews and leadership briefings
- Documentation of coordination meetings and action items
- Updates supporting strategic planning or roadmap development for PSM efforts
Work performed under this task will require coordination with personnel across several ALDWP and Laboratory organizations, which may include:
- Production organizations within ALDWP
- Manufacturing engineering groups
- Supply chain and materials management
- Digital transformation and IT organizations
- Continuous improvement or operational excellence teams
- Facilities and infrastructure organizations
- Laboratory program oOices and leadership
- DOE/NNSA representatives as appropriate
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, manufacturing, operations management, or a related technical discipline
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Approximately 5–10 years of experience supporting or managing complex technical or operational programs
- Experience preparing and maintaining program management documentation such as schedules, milestone plans, and status reports
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate activities across multiple organizations or functional groups
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to support preparation of executive-level briefings.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
- Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
- Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening in accordance with Federal requirements (details below),
- Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Active Q is highly preferred.
- Manufacturing or production operations environments
- Work in regulated or high-hazard industries such as nuclear, aerospace, defense, semiconductor manufacturing, or energy production
- Enterprise production system transformation or operational modernization initiatives
- Coordination of complex programs involving multiple organizations or technical disciplines
- Familiarity with enterprise manufacturing or program management tools such as:
- Oracle Primavera P6
- Solumina iBASE-t MES
- Windchill Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
- Oracle ERP or MRP systems
- Program controls, risk management practices, or integrated scheduling
- Experience working within the DOE/NNSA complex or with federal program sponsors
