This per diem role is ideal for a certified pharmacy technician seeking flexible scheduling and the opportunity to contribute to one of the nation’s most storied academic medical centers.

    What You’ll Do

    • Prepare and dispense medication orders for an assigned inpatient population, filling patient medications based on physician orders and patient profiles approved by the pharmacist, in accordance with departmental procedures
    • Fill orders for unit doses, pre-packaged pharmaceuticals, intravenous admixtures, controlled substances, floor stock, supplemental medications, emergency kits, and general stock
    • Assist pharmacists in collecting patient medication history to identify and resolve discrepancies, improve patient safety, and reduce medication-related errors
    • Package and label medications into unit doses for pharmacist inspection and approval
    • Deliver and pick up pharmacy documents and medications across departments and patient care locations
    • Track and maintain stock levels of pharmaceutical supplies in accordance with established par levels; check and replenish floor stock and related medications to patient care areas
    • Produce routine and requested reports from pharmacy databases, including controlled-substance use, unit inspections, medication-use studies, inventory, billing, and transfer transactions
    • Support drug product recalls and pharmacy area inspections
    • Observe departmental policies, procedures, quality assurance programs, and safety, security, environmental, and infection control standards
    • Perform other related duties as assigned consistent with the scope of this role

    Required Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
    • Active registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the District of Columbia Board of Pharmacy
    • Current national Pharmacy Technician certification — Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or an equivalent national certifying body — required
    • One (1) year of related pharmacy experience preferred
    • Proficiency with pharmacy computerized systems and the Microsoft Office suite
    • Ability to perform the mathematical operations required for inventory, supply requests, and recordkeeping
    • Ability to lift supplies and equipment up to 40 lbs., for up to approximately 40% of the workday
    • Strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
