Role Summary
As a full-time Pharmacy Technician at Howard University Hospital, you will help ensure the safe, accurate, and timely preparation and distribution of medications across our inpatient pharmacy operation. Working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and reporting to the Director of Pharmacy Services, you will fill medication orders, support medication-history collection, maintain pharmaceutical inventory, and deliver medications to patient care areas — all in service of safe, high-quality patient care.

What You’ll Do
- Prepare and dispense medication orders for an assigned inpatient population, filling patient medications based on physician orders and patient profiles approved by the pharmacist, in accordance with departmental procedures
- Fill orders for unit doses, pre-packaged pharmaceuticals, intravenous admixtures, controlled substances, floor stock, supplemental medications, emergency kits, and general stock
- Assist pharmacists in collecting patient medication history to identify and resolve discrepancies, improve patient safety, and reduce medication-related errors
- Package and label medications into unit doses for pharmacist inspection and approval
- Deliver and pick up pharmacy documents and medications across departments and patient care locations
- Track and maintain stock levels of pharmaceutical supplies in accordance with established par levels; check and replenish floor stock and related medications to patient care areas
- Produce routine and requested reports from pharmacy databases, including controlled-substance use, unit inspections, medication-use studies, inventory, billing, and transfer transactions
- Support drug product recalls and pharmacy area inspections
- Observe departmental policies, procedures, quality assurance programs, and safety, security, environmental, and infection control standards
- Perform other related duties as assigned consistent with the scope of this role
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- Active registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the District of Columbia Board of Pharmacy
- Completion of a pharmacy technician training program or national certification through successful passing of the National Pharmacy Technician certification examination is required
- One (1) year of related pharmacy experience preferred
- Proficiency with pharmacy computerized systems and the Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to perform the mathematical operations required for inventory, supply requests, and recordkeeping
- Ability to lift supplies and equipment up to 40 lbs., for up to approximately 40% of the workday
- Strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills

This is a full-time, non-exempt position covered under the Local 2094 collective bargaining agreement. Pay range: $17.95 – $28.48/hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
