Become a Key Player as a Machinist 1
You will operate production machines and produce quality machined components that support the organization’s fuel systems division. In this hands-on role you’ll work with a team on the shop floor, follow blueprints and route sheets, and contribute to safe, repeatable production processes. This is an onsite, 3rd-shift role (Sunday night–Thursday night, 11pm–7am) with initial training on earlier shifts.
Here's How You'll Make an Impact on the Team
- Perform repetitive machine operations including cutting, shaping, deburring, forming, drilling, reaming and smoothing parts
- Set feeds, speeds and depth of cut to produce quality parts and make minor machine adjustments
- Align and fasten parts using standard fixtures and established methods
- Perform operations such as reaming, tapping, spot-facing, chamfering, countersinking, and counterboring
- Remove burrs, sharp edges, tool marks, cracks or other irregularities from machined parts
- Inspect parts for conformance using visual examination and gauges or other measuring instruments
- Accurately and regularly perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) requirements
- Observe safety rules and maintain a neat, orderly work area
- Report improper machine functioning or cutting action for correction and improvement
Here's What You'll Need to Be Successful in This Role
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–3 years of general or related machine shop experience or demonstrated ability to perform the described responsibilities
- Hands-on experience with manual lathes and mills and the ability to describe typical materials, part sizes, and operations
- Ability to set up parts: interpret information, choose tooling, fixture the work, establish zero, process, and verify dimensions
- Knowledge of how to determine cutting speeds and feeds (rpm, feed per revolution, depth of cut) and how to adjust for work-hardening, chatter, and tool wear
- Proficiency with inspection and measuring tools and ability to resolve measurement/inspection issues
- Manual dexterity and ability to read and understand work instructions or blueprints
- Working knowledge of machine shop mathematics
- Effective English verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player
- Must meet safety-sensitive requirements: subject to random drug testing; FAA drug screen required; vision exam required
