Overview
The Secondary Teacher, Social Studies (6-8) will be responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned virtual instruction in social studies to middle school students, supporting academic growth, and fostering critical thinking, civic understanding, and historical literacy. This position will primarily focus on middle school social studies content expertise, virtual instructional best practices, student engagement strategies, and data-driven instruction, and require the ability to design and deliver interactive lessons, differentiate instruction for diverse learners, and create a positive and inclusive virtual learning environment to fulfill our mission of empowering families and unleashing potential.

Essential Duties

  • Develop and adapt social studies curriculum materials aligned to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for grades 6–8.
  • Deliver engaging and interactive live virtual lessons using a variety of instructional strategies, including multimedia resources, discussions, and collaborative learning activities.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and structured virtual classroom environment that promotes student engagement, participation, and academic success.
  • Implement effective virtual classroom management strategies to support student behavior, accountability, and learning outcomes.
  • Design, administer, and evaluate formative and summative assessments to measure student understanding and progress.
  • Provide timely, actionable feedback on assignments, projects, and assessments to support student growth.
  • Facilitate live instructional sessions as well as assigned asynchronous learning activities, with support from department leadership as needed.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, linguistic, and learning needs of students.
  • Monitor student academic performance using data to identify trends, learning gaps, and opportunities for intervention.
  • Provide targeted support and intervention for students needing additional academic assistance.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, participation, and academic progress.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student performance, progress, and academic expectations.
  • Collaborate with grade-level and content-area teams to align instructional practices and improve student outcomes.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities focused on virtual instruction, social studies education, and instructional best practices.
  • Stay current on state standards, curriculum updates, and effective instructional strategies for social studies education.
  • Work collaboratively with student support staff, including counselors and special education teams, to support student success.
  • You will play a key role in our collective success by proactively pivoting to support emerging business needs and strategic priorities directed by your manager.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a relevant role or industry, preferably in a remote environment. 
  • Strong knowledge of social studies content for grades 6–8, including history, geography, civics, and economics. 
  • Ability to engage students through interactive, discussion-based, and multimedia instruction.
  • Strong data-driven instructional practices with the ability to adjust teaching based on student performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs.
  • Proven experience working independently with minimal supervision, including the ability to manage a digital task list and maintain a stable remote (home-office) infrastructure.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience using the Google Workspace suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) in a professional or academic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas via written channels (Email, Google Chat, and Document Comments) with high clarity and low ambiguity.
  • Access to a private, secure, high-speed internet connection with a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds.

Education & Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, History, Social Studies, or a related field required.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with Social Studies (6-8) endorsement required.
