Overview
The Secondary Teacher, Electives – Health/PE (9–12) will be responsible for delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate health and physical education instruction, promoting student wellness, physical fitness, and healthy lifestyle habits through a virtual learning platform. This position will primarily focus on high school health and physical education instruction, student engagement strategies, virtual instructional best practices, and wellness-focused learning experiences, and require the ability to design and deliver interactive lessons, adapt instruction for diverse learner needs and home-based environments, and foster lifelong healthy habits and personal wellness skills to fulfill our mission of empowering families and unleashing potential.
Essential Duties- Deliver engaging and interactive live virtual lessons aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Health and Physical Education for grades 9–12.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, educational technologies, and digital resources to support diverse learning styles and student engagement.
- Develop and facilitate asynchronous learning activities, including wellness projects, fitness challenges, discussions, and health-related assignments.
- Teach health and wellness concepts including nutrition, personal health, mental and emotional wellness, physical fitness, safety, healthy relationships, and responsible decision-making.
- Adapt physical education activities and health instruction to support safe participation in virtual and home-based learning environments.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging virtual classroom environment that promotes student participation, accountability, and wellness awareness.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback on student assignments, participation, and physical activity engagement.
- Facilitate virtual discussions and provide individualized academic and wellness support to students as needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, participation, grades, and academic progress.
- Implement the Stellar Virtual Health/PE curriculum effectively and adapt instruction to meet individual student needs and varying physical ability levels.
- Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student understanding of health concepts and participation in physical activity.
- Analyze student performance and participation data to identify learning gaps and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
- Collaborate with curriculum specialists and instructional teams to enhance the virtual Health/PE program and student learning experience.
- Support student social-emotional development through wellness-focused instruction, teamwork, goal-setting, self-management, and healthy lifestyle practices.
- Prepare students to develop lifelong wellness habits, personal fitness goals, and informed health-related decision-making skills.
- Participate in required on-site testing events or school activities throughout the academic year.
- Engage in ongoing professional development focused on virtual instruction, secondary wellness education, and instructional best practices.
- Attend virtual staff meetings and contribute to the overall success of Stellar Virtual.
- Work collaboratively with counselors, special education staff, and student support services to address student needs.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a relevant role or industry, preferably in a remote environment.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development, health education principles, and physical wellness practices for high school students.
- Experience adapting physical activities and wellness instruction for virtual or non-traditional learning environments preferred.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing online learning platforms and educational technology tools effectively.
- Strong classroom management and student engagement skills in a virtual setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote instructional environment.
- Passion for promoting healthy lifestyles, physical activity, and wellness among high school students.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to support diverse student learning and physical ability needs.
- Proven experience working independently with minimal supervision, including the ability to manage a digital task list and maintain a stable remote (home-office) infrastructure.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience using the Google Workspace suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) in a professional or academic setting.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas via written channels (Email, Google Chat, and Document Comments) with high clarity and low ambiguity.
- Access to a private, secure, high-speed internet connection with a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds.
- Residency in the state of Texas is required.
Education & Certification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field required.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with Health and/or Physical Education endorsement required.
- Additional certifications related to wellness, coaching, fitness, or health education preferred.
