    ROLE SUMMARY

Howard University Hospital is seeking a detail-driven Perioperative Supply Technician to keep our Operating Rooms stocked, sterile, and surgery-ready. In this role you will order, receive, inspect, and replenish the sterile supplies, tissues, and equipment our surgical teams depend on — conducting inventory audits, managing par levels, and coordinating with vendors so that no case is ever delayed by a missing item. If you take pride in accuracy, organization, and being the person the team can count on, you will find your work matters here every single day, on the campus of the nation’s premier HBCU academic medical center.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    • Conduct electronic and manual inventory of sterile supplies; unbox and prepare supplies for shelving daily; maintain designated stock and alert leadership to high/low par levels and expired items.
    • Order all supplies and process bill-only vendor invoices accurately and on time.
    • Unbox and stock ordered sterile supplies and materials in all Perioperative Services storage and distribution areas.
    • Follow standard operating procedures for supply replenishment across the Perioperative Service Line — checking, pulling, filling, and receiving supply bins for full replenishment.
    • Inspect items for damage, expiration dates, proper labeling, deteriorating wrappings, order accuracy, and adherence to qualitative specifications.
    • Order special sterile supplies and rental equipment as required for the Operating Room, ensuring quantities meet anticipated surgical demand.
    • Coordinate with outside vendors to confirm availability and delivery of rented equipment.
    • Maintain records of daily orders and purchases and coordinate with Central Supply and retailers for accurate reconciliation and receipt of items.
    • Monitor, with clinical assistance, the inventory of medical equipment and devices assigned to Perioperative Services and report issues to the appropriate department.
    • Apply knowledge of aseptic technique and sterile storage requirements to all supplies handled.
    • Support the Health Sciences Compliance Program, the Howard University Code of Ethics, and HIPAA privacy requirements; maintain the confidentiality of patients, families, and staff.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Knowledge of conducting and maintaining multiple inventories.
    • Familiarity with common medical terminology and electronic ordering systems.
    • Basic math and computer skills, including data entry, email, and spreadsheets.
    • Customer-focused with a service attitude.
    • Ability to use independent judgment and to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to handle a high-stress environment in a calm manner.
    • Highly reliable organizational and communication skills; detail oriented.
    • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, and squat throughout the shift and to frequently lift and carry up to 35 lbs.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • One (1) year of related experience in inventory, stocking, and supply acquisition, and/or Central Supply experience in a hospital or medical care facility.
    • Knowledge of aseptic technique and sterile storage requirements.
    • Experience with hospital inventory management or materials management software.
    • Prior experience supporting an Operating Room or surgical services department.
