Job Summary: 

We are seeking an experienced Asset Manager to oversee our indefeasible right of use (IRU) telecommunications infrastructure assets based in Columbus, Ohio. This on-the-ground role is critical to maximizing the operational efficiency, revenue generation, and maintenance of our owned dark fiber and capacity assets. The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for all asset-related matters, ensuring compliance with customer agreements, infrastructure optimization, and strategic growth initiatives. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Asset Oversight & Strategic Direction: Direct day-to-day operations and long-term strategy for all IRU assets; make independent decisions regarding asset deployment, utilization, and optimization; conduct comprehensive site assessments and audits; determine priorities for maintenance, upgrades, and capital improvements  

  • Customer & Tenant Management: Serve as executive-level liaison and decision-maker for all customers, carriers, and co-location tenants; authorize operational decisions and issue directives to resolve critical issues; negotiate terms and conditions for service adjustments; hold ultimate accountability for SLA compliance and customer satisfaction  

  • Maintenance & Operations Authority: Direct all maintenance activities and authorize corrective actions; establish maintenance priorities and standards; evaluate and select third-party vendors; approve scope of work and authorize expenditures; ensure minimal service disruptions through proactive management and contingency planning  

  • Asset Location & 811 Management: Own all 811 Call Before You Dig ticket intake and management; make real-time decisions on ticket accuracy and asset location verification; direct locating crews and authorize marking protocols; establish procedures to prevent damage and ensure regulatory compliance; determine priorities when multiple conflicting requests arise  

  • Underground Crossing Oversight & Project Authority: Exercise direct oversight and decision-making authority over all underground fiber crossings and bore operations; approve engineering designs and installation methodologies; authorize contractors and manage quality assurance; make on-site decisions regarding project modifications or schedule adjustments  

  • Jurisdiction & Regulatory Leadership: Direct all interactions and negotiations with municipal, county, and state authorities; take ownership of right-of-way access, easement acquisition, and permit management; determine compliance strategies and authorize necessary corrective actions; maintain responsibility for all regulatory authorizations and documentation  

  • Revenue Growth & Asset Optimization: Drive revenue optimization initiatives; independently identify and prioritize upsell and cross-sell opportunities; determine pricing strategies and service configurations; make decisions on asset deployment to maximize revenue per asset; collaborate with commercial teams to shape revenue strategies  

  • Documentation, Compliance & Risk Management: Establish and enforce documentation standards; determine compliance requirements and authorize procedures to mitigate risk; make decisions regarding asset records management; hold accountability for regulatory adherence and internal control standards  

  • Reporting, Analysis & Strategic Planning: Develop and present comprehensive performance reports; conduct independent analysis of asset performance and market trends; make recommendations regarding network expansion, capacity planning, and infrastructure improvements; provide strategic input on long-term asset portfolio decisions  

  • Safety, Environment & Policy: Establish safety and compliance standards for all asset sites; authorize safety protocols and corrective actions; ensure adherence to environmental regulations and company policies; make decisions regarding site access restrictions or operational modifications based on safety assessments 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • 5+ years of experience in telecommunications asset management, network operations, or infrastructure management 

  • Strong understanding of dark fiber, IRU structures, and telecommunications service delivery models 

  • Proficiency with asset management, Network Operations and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for managing customer and vendor relationships 

  • Ability to read technical documentation, diagrams, and equipment specifications 

  • Strong organizational skills 

  • Ability to present a professional demeanor with well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with diverse personalities; works well in a team environment 

  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities  

  • Proactive and solution-focused approach to challenges  

  • Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships  

  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing business needs  

  • Physical capability to access and inspect network infrastructure sites (may include climbing, confined spaces, outdoor work in various weather conditions)

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret RFPs, trade journals, contracts, financial reports, job documents and prints, operating manuals, safety rules & regulations, training manuals, etc. 

  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community 

  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, employees, customers, and public groups 

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities  

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills 

 

Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able and willing to work indoors and outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions 

  • Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement 

  • Must be able to work around heavy equipment and machinery 

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds 

  • Routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting 

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit or be in other physically demanding positions for long periods of time 

  • Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and any applicable safety gear 

 

Minimum Required Licenses/Certificates/Registrations: 

  • CPR/First Aid 

  • OSHA 30 

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
