Financial Analyst (Hotel Tax + Audit) | Temp to Hire position $35-$37/hr.| On-Site West Chester, PA

Our client, a well-established public-sector organization in Chester County, is seeking an experienced Financial Analyst – Hotel Tax & Audit to join their finance team.

 

This position is responsible for managing hotel room rental tax activity, analyzing financial records, reconciling payments, and conducting on-site audits to ensure compliance and accuracy.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, financial analysis, auditing, or tax compliance. Experience with hotel or hospitality tax is highly preferred, but candidates with strong accounting and audit experience are encouraged to apply.

A day in the life of a Financial Analyst (Hotel Tax + Audit)

  • Manage and monitor hotel room rental tax payments, reporting, and account activity.
  • Conduct on-site audits of hotels and other lodging businesses to verify financial records and ensure accurate tax reporting.
  • Review financial records, supporting documentation, and revenue information to identify discrepancies or potential compliance issues.
  • Prepare audit findings, written recommendations, correspondence, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain detailed and organized audit files and records.
  • Research and resolve payment discrepancies, overpayments, late payments, and other account issues.
  • Reconcile tax payments, deposits, bank activity, and other financial records.
  • Prepare financial reports, schedules, and revenue-tracking reports using Excel and other financial systems.
  • Analyze financial data and identify trends to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Enter and maintain financial information within accounting and accounts receivable systems.
  • Monitor tax payment activity and calculate applicable penalties for late payments.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate information related to hotel ownership and business registration.
  • Identify new lodging businesses operating within the county and communicate registration and tax requirements.
  • Work with internal departments and technology staff to maintain and improve financial reporting systems.
  • Communicate professionally with business owners, operators, internal departments, and members of the public.
  • Provide financial information and recommendations to department leadership.
  • Assist with additional accounting, reconciliation, and financial projects as needed.

Requirements for the Financial Analyst (Hotel Tax + Audit)

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant accounting, auditing, financial analysis, or tax-related experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial records.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting audits or conducting financial/compliance audits.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience working with spreadsheets and financial data.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain financial information clearly to individuals without a financial background.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Professionalism, sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to handle confidential information.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to conduct on-site audits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hotel, hospitality, or lodging tax experience.
  • Revenue auditing or tax auditing experience.
  • Government or municipal accounting experience.
  • Experience with cash management and bank reconciliations.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials or another ERP/accounting system.
  • Experience with tax compliance or revenue collection.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including financial reporting and data analysis.
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
