Interior Design Associate
Reports To: Director of Interior Design
Position Summary
The Interior Design Associate supports the planning, development, procurement, and execution of interior design initiatives across The Dinerstein Companies' multifamily portfolio. Working closely with the Director of Interior Design, this position helps bring design concepts to life across new developments, value-add acquisitions, model units, amenity spaces, and existing communities.
This role combines interior design, FF&E sourcing and procurement, project coordination, and support for installation. The Associate Interior Designer will collaborate with internal teams, property teams, vendors, and consultants to help ensure projects are executed accurately, efficiently, and consistent with the Company's design vision.
Essential Responsibilities
Interior Design & Project Development
- Support the Director of Interior Design in the development and execution of interior design concepts for new developments, value-add acquisitions, renovations, model units, and interior and exterior amenity spaces.
- Assist with design development, finish selections, space planning, furniture layouts, and project coordination.
- Coordinate finish selections and design details with internal teams, consultants, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
- Conduct competitive property tours and market research to identify design trends, merchandising opportunities, and competitive positioning within individual markets.
- Assist in translating approved design concepts into project specifications, selections, and purchasing requirements.
FF&E, Art & Styling
- Source furniture, artwork, accessories, and styling elements for model units, leasing spaces, interior amenities, and exterior amenities.
- Research products and vendors and obtain pricing, samples, lead times, and alternative selections as needed.
- Prepare and organize FF&E selections for review and approval by the Director of Interior Design.
- Maintain products, vendors, finish, and specification information to support current and future projects.
Procurement & Order Coordination
- Coordinate procurement of approved furniture, artwork, accessories, and other FF&E.
- Obtain and review vendor quotes for accuracy prior to ordering.
- Maintain accurate project procurement and order-tracking documentation.
- Assist with monitoring project expenditures and communicating potential cost or schedule impacts to the Director of Interior Design.
Installation & Quality Control
- Travel to communities and project sites to support furniture, artwork, accessories, and styling installations.
- Assist with coordinating installation logistics and ensuring spaces are prepared for scheduled deliveries.
- Participate in the final styling and setup of model units and amenity spaces.
- Conduct post-installation punch walks to identify damaged, missing, incorrect, or incomplete items.
Marketing & Design Coordination
- Review architectural renderings, interior renderings, 3D floor plans, and other visual materials for consistency and accuracy with approved design plans and finish selections.
- Partner with Marketing to help ensure floor plans, finishes, furnishings, and other design elements are represented accurately in marketing materials.
Portfolio Support
- Assist existing communities with furniture, artwork, styling, finish, and amenity replacement needs.
- Partner with property and Operations teams to understand design-related needs and help identify appropriate solutions.
- Collaborate with Development, Construction, Operations, Marketing, and other departments as needed to support project execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in interior design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of professional experience in interior design, multifamily design, hospitality, commercial interiors, residential development, or a related environment preferred.
- Experience with FF&E sourcing, specification, procurement, or installation preferred.
- Multifamily, hospitality, or real estate development experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of interior finishes, furniture, artwork, accessories, materials, and current design trends.
- Ability to read and understand floor plans, elevations, renderings, finish plans, and related design documentation.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly related to specifications, purchasing, order tracking, and project documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, vendors, consultants, and property teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, or other design software is a plus.
- Willingness and ability to travel to communities and project sites for installations, property tours, and other project needs.
Travel
Regular travel to properties and project sites is required and may include overnight travel. Travel frequency will vary based on project schedules, installations, acquisitions, and portfolio needs.
