                                                Head of Quality

Are you a Quality Management and Food Safety professional looking for your next role with a growing natural food company?! We are looking for a Head of Quality to manage and oversee all aspects of food safety, quality and GMP requirements. This position will be responsible for managing the quality department and certifications necessary. Must be a leader to the FS&Q team in building SOPs and run a world class facility.

Reports to the VP of Operations.

Location: Montreal, Québec


Job Responsibilities:
 
  • Develop and implement a strong QA program, creating a culture around quality and food safety both inside the plant and within the support functions
  • Ensure all incoming raw and packaging materials are QC inspected and released for use in line with all regulations and specifications
  • Review and check all COA’s for each inbound consignment and ensure timely reporting of any non-conformance
  • Ensure Supplier Quality evaluations and monitoring are in place and maintain a supplier score card both qualitative and quantitative
  • Facilitate and lead cross-functional teams (manufacturing, R&D, commercialization, supply chain, maintenance)
  • Plan, define and develop QA/QC goals and direct the formulation, communication, and delegation of those objectives into meaningful task-focused action plans
  • Facilitate new product launch cross functionally, build documentation as required
  • Develop, manage, and maintain the company quality manual and SOPs
  • Coordinate and assist the operational team and support functions in the implementation and execution of the specific policies, procedures and systems defined in the SOPs or company quality assurance manual
  • Ensure the plant is audit ready every day, have all documentation available and ensure team is trained
  • Ownership of the quality department’s budget. Monitor expenses in accordance with budgetary objectives and hold department costs within the amounts established with the Finance department
  • Coordinate with other departments and external partners; audit and review outside suppliers, retain only qualified suppliers
  • Recommend policies, programs, facility enhancements
  • Train direct reports and provide opportunities for quality employees to advance and meet their goals
  • Supervise the documentation control process and assure implementation of technical changes


Required Skills/Qualifications:  
  • Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following: food science, nutrition, dietetics, microbiology, or other related fields to food safety or quality
  • 10+ years of food manufacturing/food safety experience
  • Strong understanding of HACCP, BRC or very related experience
  • Bilingual (English/French)
  • Experience in a fast-growing experience, ideally a start up
  • Comfortable developing the company’s QHSE systems and encourage a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
  • Knowledgeable on all aspects of food safety, relevant legislation, and compliance requirements
  • Tech-savvy, experience with ERP or MRP
