Position Description
The Certerra – Black Eagle Consulting Geotechnical Staff Engineer provides assistance to the Project Manager in the areas of field exploration, laboratory testing analysis, report preparation and construction oversight related to engineering projects. This position will require field work, travel and occasional overnight stays. Our work environment is approximately 50% office and 50% field work, in all types of weather. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and excited to explore our region as well as work in a fast-paced industry with the potential for growth.
Minimum Qualifications
§ A minimum of 3+ years of geotechnical engineering design experience
§ ABET accredited engineering degree such as: civil, geological or mining engineering or similar.
§ Previous experience working in a geotechnical engineering and materials testing environment.
§ Occupational Safety and Health Administration. (OSHA), 10-Hour Certification.
§ A current and valid Nevada driver's license that will allow insurance through the company insurance provider.
Preferred Qualifications
§ Nevada registered Professional Engineer
§ ACI Concrete Field-Testing Grade 1 Certification
§ NAQTC Certification (sampling & density, aggregates, asphalt)
§ Nuclear density gauge
§ Occupational Safety and Health Administration. (OSHA), 30-Hour

Duties and Responsibilities§ Coordinate on a daily basis with the Division Manager
§ Formulate Perform geotechnical field investigations, testing and construction oversight.
§ Prepare bids and estimates for geotechnical investigations.
§ Oversee and train junior geologists and engineers Schedule and conduct pre-construction meetings with public agencies and owners.
§ Assist with review and compilation of geotechnical laboratory and field-testing results, perform geotechnical analyses and report writing.
§ Perform field exploration and in-situ testing including boring layout and utility clearance, coordination with drilling contractors, supervision of drill rig and geotechnical field investigations, logging of borings and test pits and infiltration and percolation testing.
§ Perform geophysical investigations such as: Refraction Microtremor and seismic refraction.
§ Attend professional development courses and participate in local groups which further your engineering knowledge.
§ Provide Inspection and construction oversight of grading, earthwork, retaining structures and foundation installation.
§ Participate and train in lab testing procedures and compilation of lab and field-testing results.
§ Perform geotechnical engineering analysis with supervision including soil and rock classification, slope stability analysis, retaining wall design, shallow and deep foundation design, settlement, ground improvement, liquefaction, seismic and geologic hazard evaluation, and earthquake engineering.
§ Review and approve project invoices, ensuring operations are within budget limitations.
§ Develop and deliver Chang Order requests to the client for over budget and/or out of scope services.
§ Assist in interviewing Project Inspector/Tester applicants and hire well qualified candidates as needed to maintain division workload.
§ Develop and maintain industry contacts through marketing efforts.
§ Perform materials testing/inspection on an as-needed basis.
