Vac2Go has partnered with Hueman to find a Full-Time Senior Mechanic in Theodore, AL.
As a Senior Mechanic, you will be responsible for conducting service and maintenance on all vacuum trucks, accessories, and equipment. This role ensures equipment is in optimal condition and ready for rental, while also acting as the main point of contact in the absence of the Operations Manager.

Vac2Go offers daily to multi-month rentals of the latest model trucks and equipment to industrial service contractors, environmental contractors, the construction, excavation, and utility industries, and to state and local municipal governments. Additionally, Vac2Go provides repair and maintenance services for vacuum trucks and related equipment at all its facilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct service, diagnostics, and maintenance on all vacuum trucks, accessories, and equipment.
- Perform expert repairs, including clutch jobs, brake jobs, A/C work, and overhauls.
- Run diagnostics to identify root causes of issues and determine appropriate solutions.
- Ensure units are rent-ready before being deployed.
- Review and approve Check-In sheets, and perform Check-In/Check-Out procedures.
- Assess and document damages to vehicles and equipment.
- Confirm if repairs should be handled internally or externally and determine cost allocation.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the Fleet Management system and ensure compliance with DOT requirements.
- Ensure PM and inspection schedules are up to date in Fleetio or equivalent system.
- Ensure parts and tools are available or ordered proactively before beginning repairs.
- Manage inventory of parts and tools, processing orders as needed.
- Maintain current mechanical certifications and renew them as required.
- Communicate directly with customers to address concerns and resolve issues.
- Professionally walk customers through troubleshooting procedures.
- Deliver advanced training on vacuum trucks and equipment types as needed.
- Determine training needs of shop members.
- Monitor team members for adherence to safety policies, procedures, and timecard processes.
- Drive completion of the Plan of the Day and communicate priorities and updates.
- Update the daily board to reflect Plan of the Day and changes in a timely manner.
- Support the development of the Plan of the Day and review the Plan of the Week with the Ops Manager.
- Act as the main point of contact for the Branch in the absence of the Ops Manager.
- Apply knowledge of branch goals to guide shop operations and decision-making.
- Balance cost efficiency and quality in repair and maintenance decisions.
- Accurately determine whether repair or replacement is the most efficient solution.
- Identify alternative solutions when the original plan is not feasible.
- Use technical expertise, feedback, and data to recommend improvements.
- Monitor and maintain required paperwork, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
- Follow up consistently and promptly on customer requests.
Job Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on mechanical experience.
- Experience working with diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical school or vocational training preferred.
- Certification(s) may be required: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification for automotive.
CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) if driving heavy vehicles.
Manufacturer-specific training/certification (e.g., Ford, Caterpillar, Cummins). - Proficient in diagnosing and repairing engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulics.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
- Familiar with tools and equipment used in mechanical repairs.
- Understands and can diagnose industrial vacuum and Hydro excavation equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Leadership and mentoring skills for junior mechanics.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
