Data Scientist - Hybrid (Vienna, VA or Pensacola, FL)
As a Data Scientist, you will leverage your analytical expertise to transform member, financial, and organizational data into actionable insights that support mission-critical decision making across the organization. You'll identify opportunities for new products, services, and process optimization through cutting-edge data science techniques. In this role, you'll create descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive models that drive meaningful impact while working with increasing independence and applying your professional judgment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and evaluate moderately complex predictive models and advanced algorithms
- Identify meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources
- Test hypotheses/models, analyze, and interpret results
- Exercise sound judgment and discretion within defined procedures and practices
- Develop and code moderately complex software programs, algorithms, and automated processes
- Use modeling and trend analysis to analyze data and provide insights
- Develop understanding of best practices and ethical AI
- Transform data into charts, tables, or formats that aid effective decision making
- Build working relationships with team members and subject matter experts
- Lead small projects and initiatives
- Utilize effective written and verbal communication to document and present findings of analyses to a diverse audience of stakeholders
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in exploratory data analysis
- Basic understanding of business and operating environment
- Strong foundation in statistics
- Experience with programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics
- Proficiency in one or more of: SQL, R, Python, Hadoop, SAS, SPSS, Scala, AWS
- Experience with model lifecycle execution
- Technical writing ability
- Data storytelling and technical presentation skills
- Research skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of procedures, instructions, and validation techniques
- Model development experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Critical thinking abilities
- Collaborative approach and relationship-building skills
- Initiative with sound judgment
- Technical expertise (Big Data Analysis, Coding, Project Management, Technical Writing)
- Problem-solving abilities
- Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or similar quantitative fields
- Desired: Master's/PhD Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering
