COMPANY OVERVIEW

Sampled enables clients to advance human health by leveraging active biological samples through preservation, immortalization and utilization in comprehensive multiomics research within the only leading-edge Global Integrated Analytical Biorepository. 

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Sr. Director, Global Information Technology, the Senior Manager of IT Infrastructure will oversee the design, deployment, and management of the organization's IT infrastructure. This highly technical leadership role involves providing hands-on technical expertise, managing day-to-day IT support, and ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of network, server, and storage infrastructure. The ideal candidate will manage a team, as well as third-party vendors, to support both cloud and on-premises environments. Experience with GxP or computer system validation is highly preferred.

Candidates must be located in the New Jersey area and able to work onsite at Sampled’s Headquarters in Piscataway, minimum 70% onsite.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Infrastructure Strategy & Planning:

  • Develop and implement IT infrastructure strategies to support the biorepository’s operational goals across both cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance performance, scalability, and security.
  • Ensure infrastructure designs meet compliance, security, and operational requirements, with a preference for familiarity with GxP environments.

Operations & Maintenance:

  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, storage, and cloud systems.
  • Ensure optimal performance, security, and availability of all infrastructure components.
  • Implement monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve potential issues.

Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) Planning:

  • Develop and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans, ensuring minimal disruption during infrastructure failures or incidents.
  • Ensure that backup, recovery, and failover processes are regularly tested.
  • Implement procedures to reduce recovery time and risk, safeguarding critical business systems.

Team Leadership & Technical Expertise:

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of IT professionals, including system administrators, and support staff, while serving as a senior technical resource for complex infrastructure issues.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership and troubleshooting for both cloud and on-premises systems.
  • Oversee day-to-day IT operations, ensuring timely resolution of incidents, service requests, and escalations.

Security & Compliance:

  • Collaborate with security and compliance teams to align infrastructure systems with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement robust security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and access controls, to protect sensitive data.
  • Support GxP and computer system validation efforts where applicable.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management:

  • Manage relationships with third-party vendors and service providers, ensuring quality support for network, server, and storage systems.
  • Negotiate contracts and SLAs, ensuring reliable and cost-effective services.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their infrastructure needs and deliver appropriate solutions.

Budget & Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the infrastructure budget, ensuring resources are used efficiently.
  • Track and report on infrastructure costs, implementing cost-saving initiatives where possible without compromising service quality.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure management, incorporating ITIL best practices.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role, ideally managing a small team and 3rd party vendors
  • Relevant experience in a customer orientated environment in Biotech or Pharma industry preferred.
  • Proven hands-on experience with network, server, storage, and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).
  • Strong understanding of IT security principles, including network security, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Experience in business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, and leadership skills, with the ability to serve as a senior technical resource for the IT team.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with GxP environments and computer system validation (or infrastructure qualification experience, ultimately meeting FDA requirements), particularly within life sciences or biorepository sectors (highly preferred).
  • Experience with hybrid environments (on-premises, multi-site, and cloud-based). 
  • Familiarity with automation tools and DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience with FISMA regulated environments
  • Experience with audits, and computer system validation (preferred).
  • Professional certifications preferred (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CCNP, MCSE, ITIL).
