Longenecker & Associates (L&A), supporting the United Cleanup Oak Ridge (UCOR) LLC contract, is in search of a Sr. Staff/Principal Engineer. UCOR LLC is the prime contractor for the Department of Energy (DOE)/Environmental Management (EM).

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The project engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) D&D is the field representative of the design authority at United Cleanup Oak Ridge (UCOR). This position partners with key project stakeholders to develop and implement technical solutions into the field. The mission of ORNL D&D is to clean up excess contaminated facilities ultimately making space for new Department of Energy (DOE) missions. 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Prepares engineering products such as: calculations, specifications, scopes of work, analyses, designs and design changes, and engineering reports within the discipline.
  • May be assigned as a Project Engineer or Discipline Engineer. 
  • Follows procedures in the development of engineering products.
  • May develop engineering products and provide expertise in the engineering discipline commensurate with grade level.
  • May provide technical support in the areas of operations, maintenance, inspections and tests, and configuration management for assigned systems and components.
  • Maintains timely and accurate oral and written technical reports regarding assigned engineering activities.
  • Provide engineering support to the Area Project Manager, Facility Managers (FMs), Project Managers (PMs), Engineering Managers, and the Chief Engineer.
  • Oversee engineering resources to cover the need for engineering deliverables, includingbut not limited to, design criteria, scopes of work, calculations, specifications, and Design Change Notices (DCNs).
  • Ensure participation of appropriate technical functional agencies in the design and review process, and meet costs, schedule, and technical commitments.
  • Keeps proper engineering files and records.
  • Applies industry codes and standards in development of engineering products commensurate with grade level.
  • Understands and uses computer software and applications associated with engineering assignments.
  • Complies with company’s safety awareness program, office and/or field safety policies.
  • Develops an understanding of the role of each functional area within the company.
  • Conforms to company core values.
  • Acts with integrity in all elements of responsibility.
  • Expresses ideas clearly and listens effectively to the ideas of others.

 

Education and Experience:

Grade 27:

Education: BS in an appropriate engineering discipline from a four-year accredited college or university

Experience: 10+ years of experience required.  Professional Engineer License preferred.

Grade 28:

Education: BS in an appropriate engineering discipline from a four-year accredited college or university

 

Experience: 12+ years of experience required.  Professional Engineer License preferred.

 

Grade 29:

Education: BS in an appropriate engineering discipline from a four-year accredited college or university

Experience: 15+ years of experience required.  Professional Engineer License preferred.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in DOE Nuclear Facilities
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communication
