Position Overview: 

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Medical Director to lead the Medical Services Team at All Points North Lodge, a mental health and substance abuse residential treatment center located in a private community in the gorgeous Colorado Rockies, minutes away from world-class resorts The ideal candidate will bring a deep commitment to compassionate care and a history of leadership in mental health and addiction treatment. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a beautiful facility and natural setting conducive to healing with dedicated multidisciplinary teams and a wide range of available treatment modalities including group and individual therapies, pharmacotherapy, expert nutrition and exercise guidance, and neurointerventional treatments including deep transcranial magnetic stimulation, ketamine-assisted therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and more, to treat a diverse and clinically interesting and challenging patient populations including professional athletes, first-responders, US military veterans, professionals (doctors, lawyers, CEOs etc), patients with trauma-related disorders, and comorbid psychiatric and substance-abuse disorders. 

 Broad Statement of Responsibilities: 

The Medical Director plays an essential role in supporting the medical leadership at All Points North Lodge under the guidance and direction of the Chief Medical Officer, to whom the Medical Director directly reports. This role entails providing expert clinical guidance and oversight for psychiatric services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care, and implementing best practices in treatment.  

This multifaceted role involves direct patient care, policy development, emergency medical protocols, quality assurance, clinical supervision, training, and supporting quality improvement efforts to enhance service delivery. The Medical Director collaborates closely with the Chief Compliance Officer to develop, approve, and update clinical policies, protocols, and procedures. They support physicians and mid-level providers (medical and psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants), fostering a collaborative and efficient clinical environment. The Medical Director promptly addresses any clinical issues, maintaining the organization's standards of care and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. 

The ideal candidate will thrive in multidisciplinary collaboration and enthusiastically work with the Clinical Director and the Director of Nursing in coordinated and collaborative patient care 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Regular supervision of staff-level physician practitioners and mid-level practitioners at All Points North Lodge. Supervision of delivery of +Plus Services and technicians.  

  • Regular supervision of the Director of Nursing 

  • May include other clinical staff as assigned 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Medical Leadership and Clinical Collaboration (50%): Oversee and guide all medical services provided at The Lodge ensuring they meet high standards of care. Develop and implement treatment protocols and policies that align with evidence-based practices. 

  • Patient Care (50%): Provide direct expert psychiatric care to patients at the residential, partial-hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient level of care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. Ensure individualized care plans are developed and executed for each patient. The Medical Director will have a reduced case load of generally less than 15 patients (residential level of care), or roughly 3-5 patients seen per day to allow time for administrative and leadership duties 

  • Team Management: provide physician leadership offor a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages teamwork, equitable treatment, professional development, and high-quality care delivery. 

  • Program Development and Education: Collaborate in the development and enhancement of therapeutic programs and services. Evaluate and integrate new treatment modalities and technologies. Efforts to educate colleagues, patients, and the general population in areas of expertise or special interest are encouraged.  

  • Quality Assurance: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of services provided, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Implement quality improvement initiatives. 

  • Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between the treatment center and the community. Promote awareness and education about mental health and substance abuse issues. 

  • Administrative Duties: Assist in budget planning, resource allocation, and policy development. Participate in strategic planning to enhance the center’s services and outreach. 

General Duties:

Quality Assurance and Compliance: 

  • Conduct peer reviews through random audits and formal reviews every two years. 

  • Assess provider competencies and adherence to APN policies and procedures. 

  • Implement corrective actions for providers scoring below 90% compliance. 

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal psychiatric and substance use disorder services regulations. 

  • Collect and integrate feedback to improve patient care and service delivery. 

Oversight of Medical and Psychiatric Care: 

  • Ensure the evidence-based best practices for the medical and psychiatric care of all clients. 

  • Communicate with staff for consultation purposes. 

  • Monitor overall client healthcare. 

  • Allocate significant time (30%-50%) to direct client care, acting as an overflow provider as needed for PTO practitioner leave and unforeseen medical provider contingencies. 

  • Support the implementation of medical services and technological advancements. 

Emergency Medical Protocols: 

  • Respond to client medical emergencies by coordinating care and calling emergency services when necessary. 

  • Ensure documentation of the medical emergency and subsequent actions taken. 

  • Participate in managing clinical emergencies and crises with competency. 

Assessing and Implementing Plans for Infectious Disease Risks: 

  • Determine the severity and risk potential. 

  • Decide on admissions, treatment continuation, quarantine, or service discontinuation. 

  • Develop plans for continuing care and communication about the risks and updates. 

Clinical Supervision and Training: 

  • Provide clinical direction and supervision to the treatment team. 

  • Ensure continuous education and training relevant to services provided by personnel. 

  • Stay abreast of advancements in medical research, treatments, and best practices within the field. 

  • Maintain licensure and pursue continuous education and professional development. 

Leadership and Collaboration: 

  • Support the Chief Medical Officer in maintaining and fostering relationships with senior management, clinical teams, and external partners. 

  • Advocate for evidence-based practices, ensuring care quality through metrics and evaluation tools. 

  • Uphold the highest ethical standards, emphasizing patient confidentiality, autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and appropriate informed consent for all interventions delivered.. 

  • Contribute to maintaining operational efficiency and provider productivity within the organization. 

  • Represent the organization in professional circles, contributing to its status as a leader in the field. 

Physician of Record:  

  • Serve as the Physician of Record for billing with insurance panels for APN Lodge and +Plus by APN  

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable licensure requirements.  

  • Oversee the accuracy and completeness of medical documentation for insurance billing.  

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance panel requirements and regulations.  

Cultural Competency and Patient Care: 

  • Implement and support strategies that promote cultural competency, equitable, fair, and respectful treatment of clients and staff, and address the needs of diverse patient and staff demographics. 

Productivity and Efficiency: 

  • Operate at least 50% efficiency, providing 4 hours of direct care daily. 

  • Ensure direct reports operate at least 63% efficiency, (providing at least 5 hours of direct care daily). 

  • Monitor and report on productivity metrics to ensure optimal use of resources and staff. 

Scheduling and Managing On-call Provider Schedule: 

  • Develop and manage the on-call provider Medical Provider On-Call schedule Schedule for APN Lodge to ensure coverage and continuity of care. 

  • Coordinate with providers to ensure availability and readiness for on-call duties. 

  • Address any scheduling conflicts and ensure seamless transitions between on-call shifts. 

Qualifications: 

  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school.  

  • Successful completion of a US accredited residency program in psychiatry and maintained board certification in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  

  • Additional board certification highly valued but not required (e.g., Addiction Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry, Brain Injury Medicine and others) 

  • Current physician license in good standing in Colorado, or ability to obtain licensure within 90 days. 

  • Demonstrated ability to support a positive clinical environment and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer. 

  • Commitment to providing exceptional healthcare, with the capability to oversee documentation and insurance matters. 

  • Knowledge of substance use and mental health disorders, with a strong background in behavioral health. 

  • Experience in detox, residential, and outpatient care settings. 

  • Proficiency in medical record documentation and commitment to professional development. 

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and inspire a medical team. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and cultural competence. 

  • Must possess certification of all +Plus by APN services within 60 days of hire.  

Experience: 

  • Minimum of five years in direct psychiatric care post residency, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in substance use disorder and/or mental health treatment.  

  • Experience and competence with EMR systems is required. 

Special Skills & Knowledge: 

  • Excellent communication skills are essential for effective leadership, patient care, and professional interactions.  

  • The ability to strategize, implement quality improvements, and adapt to changing conditions is crucial.  

  • Familiarity with ketamine administration for ketamine assisted therapy (KAT), TMS and other interventional psychiatric modalities. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be capable of routine physical activities, including standing, bending, and lifting. 

  • Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and sit for extended periods. 

Travel Requirements: 

  • The Medical Director role will require occasional travel to other APN facilities in Denver and Boulder, Colorado, to support organizational needs, client care, professional development, and collaboration across APN facilities. 

Extent of Travel: 

  • Travel requirements will be aligned with organizational needs and professional development opportunities.  

Purpose of Travel: 

  • Travel may be necessary for coverage at other APN facilities, professional meetings and conferences, networking, and collaborative efforts with different departments or sites.
