Position Description:
Responsible for using internal, third-party, and public data sets to provide weather forecast guidance, with primary focus on short-term energy market activities.
Duties:
· Interpret meteorological data and forecasts from internal sources, third party forecast providers, and publicly available data to provide daily strategy guidance to Market Operations team
· Collaborate with third-party vendors on improving accuracy or quality of services
· Identify and alert management of high-impact weather events capable of increasing operational risk
· Coordinate with Field Operations team to schedule major service or outages during advantageous periods
· Review and report on accuracy of ISO and third-party forecasts.
· Develop and enhance tools used to communicate forecasts or weather risks to other business units
Qualifications:
· Graduate degree in meteorology, atmospheric sciences or a related technical discipline.
· Experience in Electric/Gas Utility industry
· Experience integrating various weather outlooks and briefing users on uncertainties and impacts.
· Experience forecasting one to seven-day ahead surface temperature and forecasting weather utilizing a wide variety of observational and model data, both at surface and upper air.
· Experience analyzing renewable power production (wind, solar, hydro) and how weather impacts those resources.
· Extensive knowledge of NWS system and demonstrated experience using National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) products
· Experience with long-term (month ahead or more) weather forecasting.
· Experience using Python, R, or other coding languages for data analysis, statistical analysis, and forecasting.
Pay Range for the posted level: Minimum of $100,000 – 140,000.00
