Reports To: Fleet Manager

Employment Status: Hourly (Non-exempt)

Primary Location: Beaver Dam, WI

We will determine salary based on skills and experience in relation to the function of the role, as well as equity to any other employees in the same or similar role.

 

Job Summary:

The Fleet Technician performs diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on various construction equipment, on-highway vehicles, and trailers.

 

Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

·         Diagnose, maintain, and repair various construction equipment, on-highway vehicles, and trailers using basic and specialty test equipment either mechanical or electronic.

·         Troubleshoots and replaces various components such as valves, hoses, fittings, tanks, pumps etc. in hydraulic systems.

·         Troubleshoots and repairs complex wiring for systems such as the utility booms, chassis, and engine wiring.

·         Navigate electronic service manuals, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and parts catalogs.

·         Performs basic fabrication and welding using MIG, ARC, OXY Acetylene, Torch, grinders, and other fabricating tools.

·         Performs preventative maintenance and BIT / DOT inspections including wet and dry PM services and repairs that need to be addressed during BIT inspection findings.

·         Raises trucks, trailers or other equipment using hydraulic or air assisted jacks or hoists in a safe practice.

·         Replaces worn or defective brake components including tire replacement.

·         Diagnoses and repairs air conditioning systems.

·         Fully follow dealership and manufacturer service guidelines.

·         Completes and submits all paperwork in an accurate and timely fashion.

·         Notice field urgency and react accordingly to their needs.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

General

·         Submit to and successfully complete a background check, pre-employment drug test, MVR, and DOT physical.

·         Proven history of heavy equipment experience.

·         High school or equivalent education.

·         Valid driver’s license.

·         Ability to understand mechanical and construction terminology.

·         Ability to operate welding equipment.

·         Ability to operate diagnostic computers for equipment and trucks.                                      

·         Working knowledge and skill in body work, fabrication, welding and torching, computer diagnostics, hydraulic and construction equipment mechanics, automotive mechanics, electrical work, etc.

·         Ability to use basic math skills to compute measurements, liquid volumes, material strength, timecards, etc.

·         Ability to compute fuel to air ratios, gear ratios, etc.

·         Ability to read and interpret documents:  safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, work orders, quotes, etc.

·         Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, work orders, etc.

·         Must be a self-starter and internally motivated to achieve corporate, department, and personal objectives.

·         Must be organized, multi-tasked oriented, and maintain a neat and safe work environment.

·         Ability to be a team player.

·         Ability to plan daily tasks and accomplish them in a timely fashion.

·         Ability to use required computer systems.

·         Ability to follow instruction.

·         Strong understanding of safety procedures and policies.

·         Excellent vision or the use of prescription lenses.

·         Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

·         Must be able and willing to work indoors and outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions

·         Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement

·         Must be able to work around heavy equipment and machinery

·         Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time

·         Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

·         Routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting

·         Must be able to stand, walk, sit or be in other physically demanding positions for long periods of time

·         Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and any applicable safety gear

 

Required Licenses/Certificates/Registrations:

·         Associates or trade school degree in the field of automotive or diesel repair

·         ASE certifications / Air Conditioning 609 certification

·         Welding certifications

·         Qualified to perform BIT / DOT inspections

·         Brake Certifications for air systems

·         DOT Medical Card

·         Commercial Driver's License

·         First Aid Certification

·         OSHA 10
