Fisheries Biologist: Protecting Alaska's Marine Life

Are you a passionate Fisheries Biologist ready to make a significant impact on Alaska's vital marine ecosystems? @Orchard LLC, a NOAA Prime Contractor, is anticipating an exciting new Task Order award opportunity with the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) in Alaska. We need to identify an experienced Fisheries Biologist, located in Alaska, to play a critical role in this opportunity. This is your chance to contribute to the conservation of protected marine species and the sustainable growth of American aquaculture.

We're looking for a highly skilled professional to support the Alaska Region, working collaboratively across divisions to execute critical directives. You'll play a key role in Endangered Species Act (ESA) consultations, Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) reviews, and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation.


What You'll Do:

  • Lead and complete formal and informal ESA Section 7 consultations for aquaculture and other federal activities.
  • Contribute to regulatory efficiency by developing programmatic consultations and environmental reviews for aquaculture projects.
  • Prepare programmatic Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments under NEPA.
  • Review and provide expert comments on NEPA documents and proposed activities, focusing on protected resources and marine mammals.
  • Engage with diverse stakeholders, including federal agencies, applicants, tribal representatives, and researchers.
  • Prepare essential documentation, ensuring compliance and timely responses.
  • Share your expertise at meetings and workshops, advocating for protected species.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree (Master's or Ph.D. preferred) in the biological sciences, conservation biology, wildlife management, or a related field.
  • Expertise in ESA, MMPA, and NEPA, with proven proficiency in ESA Section 7 consultations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of marine natural resource management issues, including aquaculture, fishing, and oil and gas.
  • Knowledge of Alaska marine species biology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications.

This position offers flexibility: work remotely or on-site at our client offices in Juneau or Anchorage, Alaska.
