The Opportunity
A Fortune 500 telecommunications company seeks a Network Permitting Specialist in Conshohocken, PA or Columbia, MD on a long-term, temporary basis for at least twelve months, possibly longer. The schedule is hybrid: Monday and Friday are WFH days; Tuesday through Thursday are in office. The hourly rate is up to $40 (Conshohocken, PA) and $45 (Columbia, MD), plus benefits.
Primary Duties
The Network Permitting Specialist will manage zoning, permitting, and entitlement processes for the installation of telecom infrastructure (e.g., poles, fiber networks). The role involves preparing applications, working with local governments, and ensuring compliance with municipal codes and federal telecom regulations. Additional duties include the following:- Prepare, submit, and track zoning and permit applications; respond to jurisdictional requests for information.
- Collaborate with design and construction teams to facilitate accurate and timely permit documentation.
- Maintain up-to-date records and provide regular system updates and reports.
- Serve as a liaison between internal departments and municipal authorities to ensure compliance with codes and conditions of approval.
- Participate in planning meetings and represent the company at municipal hearings as needed.
- Track permitting-related costs and ensure proper billing and reconciliation.
- Support internal reviews of agreements and provide permitting and access-related guidance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Planning, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in zoning, planning, land use, or telecommunications permitting.
- Strong knowledge of zoning codes, planning processes, and municipal regulations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents and contracts.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel to local municipalities and government offices as needed.
- Zoning and permitting expertise
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Database and system experience
- Knowledge of Federal Wireless Facilities Deployment legislation, including Section 6409(a) and relevant FCC Orders
