Description

A top client has partnered with Hueman to hire a Senior Accountant in Houston, Texas.

The Senior Accountant, Acquired Operations is the hands-on accounting owner for a newly acquired, project-based services business with approximately $20m in annual revenue, now part of a PE-backed platform. This role is ideal for someone who wants real ownership, not just a piece of the process. You will run the day-to-day accounting engine, close the books, produce accurate financials, and partner closely with operations to keep job costing and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition tight.

Near term, you will be largely self-sufficient with support from corporate for policies, close requirements, templates, and reporting guidance. You will work closely with the AR clerk (already in place), operations leaders, and corporate accounting to meet close and reporting deadlines. Mid-term, as the business integrates and corporate support expands, you will have the opportunity to improve processes and take on broader responsibility. For the right person, this role can grow into a larger finance and accounting leadership position as the platform scales.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Core accounting ownership

  • Own full-cycle accounting for the business, excluding AR posting and collections handled by the AR clerk
  • Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
  •  Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and close packages for corporate reporting
  • Support external audit and review requests with organized schedules and documentation

Accounts payable and spend controls

  • Process accounts payable and credit card activity directly using Ramp and NetSuite
  • Ensure invoices are coded correctly, approved appropriately, and paid on time
  • Reconcile AP, credit cards, and vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
  • Maintain basic AP controls and documentation in line with corporate policy

Job costing and POC revenue recognition

  • Support job costing by ensuring labor, materials, and subcontractor costs are recorded accurately
  • Prepare schedules for WIP (percent complete), earned revenue, and over/under billing, including related journal entries and close support
  • Partner with operations to understand job status, change orders, and cost drivers

Close, reporting, and coordination

  • Run month-end close activities end to end, including timelines, reconciliations, and variance review
  • Coordinate with corporate accounting on reporting requirements, templates, and deadlines
  • Identify practical process improvements to improve close quality and efficiency over time

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA preferred but not required with demonstrated technical accounting skills
  •  4–7 years of progressive accounting experience
  •  Demonstrated ability to perform month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation independently
  • Ability to perform percentage-of-completion revenue recognition independently required
  • Experience with project-based, services, or construction-adjacent businesses strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with job costing required
  • Comfortable processing AP directly and owning day-to-day accounting execution
  • Must be able to operate with limited day-to-day oversight
  • Solid Excel skills for reconciliations, schedules, and job cost analysis
  • Experience with modern accounting software (NetSuite or similar) and spend tools (Ramp or similar) preferred

Core Competencies

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset

Work Environment & Benefits

  •  Houston-based role with on-site expectations and hybrid flexibility
  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, retirement plans) and paid time off
  • Support for CPA attainment
