At Movement Schools, we believe literacy is foundational to scholar success across all content areas. We are seeking a strategic and hands-on ELA Director (K–5) to lead English Language Arts instruction across the network.
This role is ideal for a content expert who understands the science of reading, standards alignment, and high-quality literacy instruction. The ELA Director will lead unit unpackings, coach teachers, and use data to drive strategic improvements in reading, writing, and language development.

What You’ll Do
You’ll lead with clarity and purpose to ensure rigorous, aligned literacy instruction across K–5 campuses.
As ELA Director, you will:
Serve as the Network Content Expert

Lead the vision and strategy for K–5 ELA instruction

Unpack standards to ensure clarity and alignment across grade levels

Ensure vertical coherence in reading, writing, and language instruction
Strengthen Instructional Practice

Lead unit unpackings and curriculum planning sessions
-
Model lessons and step into classrooms to coach or teach as needed

Provide actionable feedback to increase rigor, text complexity, and student discourse
Leverage Data to Drive Results

Analyze literacy data to identify bright spots, trends, and gaps

Develop and support strategic action plans to improve reading and writing outcomes

Monitor progress and adjust supports to accelerate scholar growth
Build Strong Relationships

Build trust with teachers, instructional leaders, and campus teams
-
Collaborate across schools to share best practices and instructional resources

Develop partnerships within and beyond the network to strengthen literacy outcomes
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a leader who combines deep literacy expertise with strong relational leadership.
You’ll thrive in this role if you:

Have deep knowledge of K–5 ELA Common Core standards and literacy development

Can clearly unpack standards and translate them into strong daily instruction

Are confident coaching teachers and modeling effective literacy practices

Use data to drive strategic decisions and close gaps

Build collaborative, trusting relationships

Lead with urgency, clarity, and high expectations
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
-
Minimum of three (3) years of successful K–5 teaching experience in ELA
-
Demonstrated success improving student literacy outcomes on state exams
-
Experience coaching or leading adults
-
Deep knowledge of standards-based ELA instruction

Preferred Qualifications

Experience leading multi-campus or network-wide initiatives

Background in curriculum design or literacy leadership

Experience in charter or choice-based school settings
Compensation & Schedule

Starting Salary: $80,000
