Description

A global professional services association seeks an experienced Intellectual Property Attorney for a short-term, temporary assignment expected to last until the end of the calendar year. The position is hybrid in New York City:  three days onsite; two days remote.  Start date is immediate and the hourly rate is $60-$90, depending upon experience.

Primary Duties:

The Intellectual Property Attorney will support the global intellectual property program with a focus on trademark portfolio management, copyright matters, licensing, and technology-related legal issues. The Intellectual Property Attorney will advise internal stakeholders on IP strategy, brand protection, and compliance while supporting global legal initiatives. Additional duties include the following:

  • Draft and negotiate intellectual property agreements, including licensing, technology collaboration, and vendor agreements.
  • Manage trademark portfolio matters, including trademark clearance, enforcement, and responses to USPTO office actions.
  • Support copyright matters, including registrations and fair use analysis.
  • Review and update intellectual property provisions in contracts and organizational templates.
  • Advise business teams on brand usage, trademark guidelines, and IP considerations related to marketing, publishing, and digital content.
  • Conduct legal research regarding global intellectual property laws and emerging legal developments.
  • Provide guidance on IP strategy, protection, and risk management.
  • Deliver training and educational presentations related to intellectual property law and compliance.
  • Assist with technology initiatives, knowledge management, and process improvement projects within the legal department.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
  • Admission to the NY or NJ Bar in good standing.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of intellectual property experience in a law firm or in-house legal environment.
  • Strong experience with trademarks, licensing, copyright, and IP enforcement.
  • Knowledge of global trademark law and IP portfolio management.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Interest or experience in technology, AI, and emerging intellectual property issues preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
